DescriptionThe whole story▼
Built from BMC's proprietary race-grade filter media, the FM1012/01RACE is engineered for Ducati Panigale V4, V4 S and V4 R owners who have moved beyond stock performance. Where the standard filter prioritises longevity at factory power levels, this Racing unit — identifiable by its yellow stripe — balances a significantly higher airflow rate against genuine filtration integrity, making it the logical companion to engine and ECU modifications.
Key Features
- Race-specification filter media delivers increased airflow without sacrificing filtration efficiency, keeping harmful contaminants away from modified internals.
- Retains the exact geometry of the OEM air filter — a direct drop-in replacement requiring zero airbox modification.
- Yellow stripe identification makes it immediately distinguishable from the standard filter during servicing.
- Designed specifically for motorcycles running engine and ECU tuning where the factory filter becomes the restriction.
- Reusable and cleanable construction typical of BMC's premium race product line, reducing long-term running costs.
Construction and Materials
BMC has long been the filtration partner of choice for MotoGP and World Superbike teams, and the FM1012/01RACE draws on that development programme. The filter medium is a multi-layer cotton gauze material, oiled and precision-cut to match the Panigale V4 airbox profile exactly. The supporting frame mirrors the OEM unit dimensionally, so fitment is confirmed first time without adjustment. The yellow stripe is not decorative — it is a quality-control and identification marker used throughout BMC's Racing range to distinguish elevated-flow units from their street counterparts at a glance.
Performance and Application
Increasing airflow to a fuel-injected engine without a corresponding ECU recalibration will, in most cases, yield limited gains. The FM1012/01RACE is therefore aimed squarely at Panigale V4 owners who are already running — or planning — engine work and ECU mapping. In that context, removing the factory airflow restriction allows the tune to extract the full benefit of other modifications: camshafts, exhaust systems, throttle bodies and fuelling adjustments all respond better when the intake is no longer the bottleneck. For purely stock machines, BMC's standard street filter remains the recommended choice.
