DescriptionThe whole story▼

A long ride south on an XJ6 Diversion F means more than kilometres. On French and Italian motorways it also means a toll plaza every so often: slow down, stop, pay, pull away again, frequently uphill and with luggage on the back. Each one is a small piece of clutch work, and over a long day they add up. For this bike, listed from 2010 to 2016, Accossato makes the ESY688, a machined aluminium clutch lever with an adjustable span to the grip.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the XJ6 Diversion F, 2010 to 2016
  • Catalogued by Accossato under FZ6 600 R
  • Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
  • Adjustable distance from blade to grip
  • Long blade for a lighter pull in gold, green, orange and blue
  • Anodised aluminium, CNC-machined, with black hub
  • One piece, no folding joint

Construction and Material Quality

Anodised colour looks different from paint, and the ESY688 shows why. The coloured layer is translucent and sits within the surface of the aluminium, so the machined metal still shines through it and gives the blade a slight metallic depth, whichever of the seven colours you choose. Accossato mills the lever on CNC machines, anodises the hub black and colours only the blade. The blade is fixed from end to end, without any folding joint, and holds its shape under the repeated pulls of a long touring day.

Toll Plazas on the Way South

The routine at a toll plaza hardly changes: first gear, clutch in, a few metres of creeping in the queue, then a stop at the barrier while you pay. Holding the lever for a minute or more on a loaded bike is where a long reach becomes tiring, particularly in summer gloves that are damp from the heat. Bring the ESY688 in so the first part of the pull happens with a relaxed hand, and consider the long blade, which needs less force to hold against the grip. When the barrier lifts, a loaded Diversion F wants a clean, unhurried start, and knowing exactly where the clutch bites lets you move off without stalling in front of the queue. Then it is back up to cruising speed, and the left hand can rest until the next plaza.

Fitment and Compatibility

As with the brake lever for this bike, Accossato's catalogue lists the ESY688 under FZ6 600 R with a longer run of years; our shop files it under the European XJ6 Diversion F and therefore gives that bike's years, 2010 to 2016. It mounts at the original clutch mounting and replaces the stock lever. If the model name on your papers matches neither designation, the product photos are the quickest way to compare. The matching brake lever is the EDF016, offered for the same years and in the same colours.

Road Approval

The ESY688 has no documented German ABE; its intended use is on closed circuits.
