A woven filter tells you how it is doing. Hold one up to a window and light comes through the mesh; where the light stops, so has the dust. The P14 is not woven and offers no such courtesy. It is a nonwoven mat that catches particles throughout its thickness rather than across a single face, so the surface you can see is a poor witness to the state of the material behind it. Anyone fitting one to a CBR250RR should know that before the first inspection, not after it.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven polyester at 14 µm, rated 1,800 l/m²/sec — the dust specification in the range
- Depth filtration: the load is held through the thickness of the mat, not gathered on one surface
- Finer than the standard 80 µm P08 and correspondingly less free-flowing: an exchange, not a promotion
- Dry when new and dry after washing; nothing is sprayed, soaked or oiled onto it at any point
- Takes the series CBR250RR airbox as it stands, without modification and without remapping
- Cleaned rather than consumed; two years of guarantee, life-of-machine specification
Reading a mat instead of a mesh
Two habits make up for what the eye cannot reach. The first is to compare faces: hold the clean side against the dirty side in daylight and judge the difference between them rather than the colour of either, since an evenly grey mat may still pass air perfectly well while a paler one can be loaded deep inside. The second is to stop inspecting on appearance altogether and clean on a rhythm: whenever the airbox is open, without debate. A material chosen for dirty air is best kept to the calendar the dirt keeps.
What the finer figure costs
Roughly a third of the standard element's flow rating passes the same area of this material, which is not a small thing to accept. It is the price of the retention, and it is why the choice belongs to conditions rather than ambition. An insert filter makes no standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and a finer one gives capacity away instead of adding any. On a CBR250RR ridden through harvest dust or unswept lanes the surrendered headroom will never be missed; on one that only sees clean tarmac the P08 is the better-matched part.
Care and cleaning
Everything the PM168P14 needs is taken away from it rather than added to it. An air line at the clean face, worked outward, lifts the load back out along the path it came in. Where a season has left more than air can move, lukewarm water and a mild washing-up detergent finish the job; rinse until the water runs colourless, then leave it in moving air until dry through. Heat is the one real enemy — radiators, hot air guns and flame deform the material, and a deformed element stops sealing before it stops looking usable. The maintenance sheet lives in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
The listing covers a single motorcycle, the Honda CBR250RR of model years 2017 through 2026. The same housing is catalogued with two other media, the standard P08 and the P08 F1-85 racing cloth, so the airbox is the constant and the material is the decision. The Fitment tab shows it in full.
