Descriptions of a fine filter medium usually begin with what it catches. The more useful number is what it costs you, so here it is first: PM176P14 passes a rated 1,800 l/m²/sec where the standard P08 for this airbox passes 5,050. That is not a footnote to the 14-micron rating, it is the same fact seen from the other side. A denser medium holds more because it lets less through, and choosing one means accepting that exchange for the sake of the air an RS660 has to breathe.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven polyester built for dust — no oil in it when new, and none added later
- Filtration at 14 µm with a rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec, the dusty-conditions entry for this airbox
- Finer than the 80 µm weave offered for the same housing, and correspondingly slower to pass air
- About twice the working area of a typical performance element, which is what makes the density usable
- Fits the series airbox in place of the paper panel: no cutting, no repositioning, no remap
- Cleaned and refitted rather than thrown away, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
Reading the exchange honestly
Neither figure is a score. Sprint Filter's range runs from 85 µm at one end to 7 µm at the other, and every step down that scale buys retention with flow. What matters is where the motorcycle sits, not where the medium sits. A 660 twin ridden on sealed roads is well served by the standard weave and gains nothing from a finer one. A 660 that spends its summers on gravel access tracks, in harvest dust or behind roadworks is asking the intake for something the standard weave was never chosen to give.
Where the lost flow actually shows
Almost nowhere, most of the time. A medium turns into a restriction only when the engine draws hard enough to notice it, which on this machine means a wide throttle high in the range and held there. Below that the reserve in either cloth goes unspent. Against the standard element this one is also the cheaper of the two — the P08 is listed at about forty per cent more — so budget is not the thing to weigh. Nor is power: a filter placed in an unaltered airbox leaves a series motorcycle making what it made before, in whichever medium you fit it.
Care and cleaning
PM176P14 is regenerated with compressed air, and the direction matters more here than anywhere else in the range: blow from the clean side outward, so the dust the medium was bought to stop is pushed back out instead of driven further into it. A summer of grit will eventually need more than air, and lukewarm water with a mild detergent handles it — rinse thoroughly, then let the element dry completely in circulating air before it goes near the bike. No heat of any kind: no gun, no radiator, no flame. It is refitted dry and treated with nothing. The Downloads tab carries the maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Specified against the airbox of the Aprilia RS660 under the model years 2021 to 2026. The number covers two Aprilia entries in all, the RS660 and the Tuono, and the Fitment tab lists each with its model years.
