A filtration rating only describes the air that goes through the element. Air that finds its way around one is not filtered at all, and no material can rate it. That is why the first job when fitting PM01S F1-85 to a V85 TT is not the cloth but the housing: the sealing edge of the panel, the mating face it presses against, the clips that hold the two halves of the airbox together, and the ducting behind it. A machine from the 2018 to 2020 series has usually had that box open more than once, and a filter is only as good as the seal around it.
Key Features
- Dry polyester in the racing grade, rated at 85 µm filtration
- Rated throughput of 15,000 l/m²/sec, the most open material Sprint Filter offers
- No oil at any stage, so the sealing edge stays clean and nothing is carried downstream
- Approximately twice the filtering area of a typical performance element
- Direct replacement in the series airbox: factory position, no cutting, no remap
- Washable, reusable and covered by two years of warranty from the date of purchase
The seal is part of the specification
Panel filters are held in place by the housing itself, which means the quality of the installation is a real variable rather than a detail. A panel seated on a crumb of old gasket, a clip that has been left unlatched, a duct that was not pushed home — each of these lets a share of the intake air bypass the medium entirely, and that share carries whatever the road has to offer. Fitting a new element is the natural moment to check all of it, with the box clean and both faces visible. It costs a few minutes and it decides whether the material specification means anything at all.
What this grade brings to a V85 TT
The open weave was drawn for machines serviced between sessions, and it earns its place where the airbox is opened often. It does not add power: a filter in an unaltered airbox leaves the 853 twin producing what it always produced, and any claim to the contrary belongs to a different kind of part. Its practical return on a road machine is a very low resistance at the panel and a slower approach to the point where the element wants attention, traded against holding back less of the fine fraction than the standard weave.
Care and cleaning
Regenerate the medium with compressed air aimed from the clean side outward. For anything air will not shift, lukewarm water with a mild detergent is the correct step; rinse the panel thoroughly and let it dry completely in moving air. No heat, no hot air gun, no flame — and no oil or dressing before it goes back in, which also keeps the sealing edge clean. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Specified for the airbox of the Moto Guzzi V85 TT, model years 2018 to 2020. Four catalogue entries carry this number in this medium, across two marques of the same group, and each appears with its own model years in the Fitment tab.
