DescriptionThe whole story▼
The last loop of a long trail day is often ridden in fading light. Shadows fill the ruts, a wet rock looks like dry earth and a hole in the track shows itself only as the front wheel drops in. On a KTM 250 XC-W, the two-stroke enduro KTM built above all for American riders, that is the hour when braking has to be early and gentle. For the 2014 to 2022 bikes there is the B8283 from Accossato, cut from Ergal 7075, with a blade that can fold out of harm's way when a hidden hole wins.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 250 XC-W, model years 2014 to 2022
- Fits in place of the stock lever at the front master cylinder
- Hinged blade can fold forward instead of breaking
- Short, three-finger blade
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black, blue or orange blade on a dark base
- Supplied as a single brake lever
- No German ABE documented; off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The B8283 is made of two parts with two jobs. The base, finished in a dark colour, stays put on the master cylinder pivot and holds the joint. The blade, in black, blue or orange, does the work under your fingers and can fold forward when struck. Accossato mills both from solid Ergal 7075 on CNC machines in Italy, choosing the high-strength aluminium alloy because it wants a lever that is strong, light and reliable. The blade is the short one of Accossato's pair, drawn for three fingers.
When the Light Goes
Riding into dusk changes how you use the front brake. In daylight you choose a braking point from what you can see; in the half-dark you brake for what you might not see. Experienced trail riders slow down sooner, keep their fingers resting on the lever and brake in soft, progressive squeezes, because a hard grab just as the front wheel drops into an unseen hole is how many evening falls begin. The 250 XC-W is light and easy to hold, but a front wheel that stops dead in a hole will still put it on the ground.
Those are slow falls, often to the right if the wheel was turned that way, and the brake lever takes much of the contact. On a solid lever the blade tends to bend or break right there. The B8283 is hinged so that the blade can give way forward, which improves the chance that the ride back to the trailhead happens with a working front brake. It is not a promise, and the surest protection in the dark is still a slower pace, but it takes one worry away at the end of a long day on the KTM 250 XC-W.
Fitment and Compatibility
This lever is listed by Accossato for the KTM 250 XC-W of 2014 to 2022 and replaces the original brake lever on the stock master cylinder. For a 250 XC-W built before 2014, only the clutch side is covered, by the C7283 folding clutch lever, which runs from 2006 to 2022. Blade colours common to both levers are black, blue and orange; red is reserved for the clutch lever.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for the B8283. It is intended for trail, enduro and competition riding away from public roads.
