DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of long tours begin or end on a ferry, and few places ask more of a rider's left hand than the loading ramp. On a big touring bike like the Moto Guzzi Norge 1200, rolling along the quay, up a steel ramp, over the threshold of the ship and into a narrow lane between lorries all happens at walking pace, with the clutch slipping for much of the way. The Accossato ESC080 is a CNC-machined clutch lever for the Norge 1200 of 2006 to 2017, adjustable in reach and made in three lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Moto Guzzi Norge 1200, model years 2006 to 2017
- Fits the original clutch mounting in place of the stock lever
- Reach adjuster near the pivot
- Short, standard (approx. 138 mm) or long blade, depending on colour
- Black and red made in the standard length only
- Anodised aluminium, machined on CNC equipment, black hub
- Fixed blade without a hinge
- No German ABE documented, for the track
Construction and Material Quality
There is no casting in the ESC080. Accossato mills it from a solid aluminium blank, which gives the lever an even cross-section and places the pivot bore precisely, and only after machining does it go for anodising. The hub, where the pivot and the reach adjuster sit, comes out black; the blade takes the colour you choose. Anodising makes that colour part of the metal's own surface, a useful quality on a lever that meets wet gloves, rain and the salty air of a harbour. The blade is rigid and does not fold.
Ramps, Thresholds and Steel Decks
Boarding follows a pattern. You wait in the lane with the engine off, start up when the crew waves you forward and then ride very slowly: along the quay, onto a ramp that can be steep depending on the tide, across the joint where ramp meets ship and along a deck marked with painted lines and lashing points. All of it happens between first gear and the friction point. On the Norge 1200, loaded for a long trip, the clutch has to feed in just enough drive to keep the bike moving and balanced, then take it away again when the car in front stops. Wet steel and paint offer less grip than tarmac, so a smooth take-up matters: the more gently the drive reaches the rear tyre, the smaller the chance of a slip or a lurch. A lever within easy reach lets the fingers hold the friction point for minutes without cramping. Set the ESC080 so that your fingers curl round the blade in their natural position, and consider the long blade, in blue, gold, green or orange, if you want the pull to be lighter. Once the Norge 1200 is parked, follow the crew's instructions for securing it; many ask for the bike to be left in gear on its side stand.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESC080 for the Norge 1200 from 2006 to 2017, with entries for the Norge 1200 and the four-valve Norge 1200 GT 8V. The lever takes the place of the standard part at the original clutch mounting. On the brake side, the EDF016 covers the same model years with the same colours and lengths, so the pair can be ordered in one colour or chosen independently.
Road Approval
The ESC080 has no documented German ABE. Our offer is for use on the racetrack.
