The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
A great many 2022-and-later Monkeys never see a motorway. They do the last mile: farm tracks to a holiday cottage, beach access roads, campsites where the grass has worn through to sand. Fine dust in small doses, all summer. The SM302P14 is the element Sprint Filter makes for that kind of use on the five-speed Monkey, in a nonwoven medium far finer than the everyday P08, and sized exactly like the Honda filter it replaces.
Key Features
- P14 nonwoven medium, dry: 14 µm, 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Holds dust within the depth of the material instead of on a surface weave
- Original Honda dimensions, so the JB03/JB05 airbox cover closes normally
- No oil to attract grit or wash out in rain
- Reused after cleaning rather than thrown away at the service
- Warranty of two years from purchase
Trading flow for fineness
The P14 lets through roughly a third of the air the P08 does per square metre, and it is only worth that because the Monkey does not need the rest. Its 124 cc single makes nine horsepower; the intake demand at full throttle is small, and a finer medium can meet it comfortably. On a bigger, harder-breathing engine the same choice would cost something noticeable. Here it costs almost nothing, and in return the element catches particles the P08 would let pass. If the bike lives on clean roads, buy the P08 instead; the P14 earns its place only where the air is visibly dirty.
The dimensions matter here
The earlier Monkey element, PM179, carried a taller filtering pack than Honda's own. It fits the first generation and stops the lid of the second from shutting. For a dust filter that is the worst possible failure, because a cover that does not seal lets unfiltered air round the edge of the element, which defeats the whole point of a 14-micron medium. The SM302P14 has Honda's outline and height, so the seal is where Honda designed it to be.
Care and cleaning
Dust loads into the depth of a nonwoven, so clean it a little earlier than you would a P08. Compressed air from the inside out lifts most of it. Where the dirt has turned sticky, a bath in lukewarm water with mild detergent works, followed by thorough rinsing and slow drying at room temperature. Keep it away from heat and flame, and never oil it. The Downloads tab holds the maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Honda Monkey 125 built from 2022: JB03 and JB05 frames, five gears, airbox cover part 17235-K0F-T60. The four-speed JB02 of 2018 to 2021 needs PM179P14 instead. Do not go by the Honda filter number, 17210-K0F-T00, because Honda used it on both generations. The gearbox, the frame code or the cover number tells them apart reliably.
