Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Yamaha NVX 155 (2017–2026) PM185S

Scooters like the NVX earn their keep where the air is damp and seldom clean: coastal towns, rainy months, winter roads that have been salted. What that air leaves on an intake element is not loose dust a shake would remove but a film — fine particles bound together by moisture and by whatever the road surface was treated with. The Sprint Filter PM185S answers it with a dry polyester weave filtering at 80 microns at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, and with a property no paper cartridge has: it can be washed, and washing is exactly what a bound film needs.

The film you cannot blow off

Dry dust leaves an element when compressed air is fed in from the clean side. A damp deposit does not: it has set into the weave, and air merely polishes it. Paper has no answer to that, which is why its service instruction is replacement — the only way to reset a paper cartridge is to buy another one. A polyester weave is washed in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent and comes back toward its starting restriction, which turns the wettest and dirtiest season of the year from a reason to spend money into a reason to spend ten minutes.

What this element is, and what it is not

It is a filter, in the standard airbox, on the standard fixings, needing no modification and no remap. It is not a power part: a scooter with an unchanged exhaust and unchanged transmission does not accelerate harder because the fabric inside the airbox is different, and nothing here should be read that way. The useful outcome is an intake restriction that stays low and that can be brought back toward its original figure whenever the element is cleaned. Where roads are dry and dusty rather than wet, the same housing takes the 14-micron P14, which holds back more and flows less — a swap between two properties, not a step up.

Care and cleaning

Start with compressed air on the clean face, working outwards so the dirt exits where it entered. Add lukewarm water and a mild detergent once the element has taken on a film, rinsing until nothing more comes away, then leave it in open moving air until it is dry all the way through.
