Riders reach for a finer weave for two different reasons, and only one of them is water. Where the concern is dust — gravel, building traffic, a summer of dry farmland — this airbox already has an answer that costs a fraction of this one, because Sprint Filter catalogues a 14 µm element for the Streetfighter V2 955, finer than the 37 µm cloth here and rated at 1,800 l/m²/sec. That is worth knowing before spending. A race assembly bought for the wrong reason is an expensive mistake and a quiet one.
Key Features
- Water-repellent 37 µm polyester, dry, rated at 4,500 l/m²/sec
- Retention of 91.8 % measured on 37-micron particles
- Race-assembly construction, though without the WorldSBK build's carbon fibre frame
- Nothing oiled at any stage, so a wash ends with a rinse and a drying period
- Takes the place of the paper panel in the unmodified airbox of the 955 cc Streetfighter V2
- Warranted two years, and built to stay with the motorcycle rather than be replaced
Two questions that look like one
Dust and water are both reasons to move away from the standard 80 µm panel, and the range answers them separately. The 14 µm cloth goes finer and surrenders a great deal of throughput to do it: 1,800 l/m²/sec against the 4,500 here. That is the trade in its plainest form, more held back and less passed through. The 37 µm weave gives up far less and adds a behaviour the finer cloth is not sold for, in that it resists wetting. Neither outranks the other. They are answers to different questions, and identifying the question is the rider's job.
What is left of the case for this part
A Streetfighter V2 that is out in weather rather than on dry Sundays, often enough that a cloth which shrugs off water is worth more than a cloth which sieves finer. Add an owner who opens the airbox by choice rather than at a service interval, since this is a race assembly and built to be handled, and the outlay starts to make sense. Take either of those away and it stops making sense quickly: R127S-WP-AVIO asks well over five times what the 14 µm element does, and changing the panel does not make a Streetfighter V2 quicker in any weather.
Care and cleaning
An air line on the clean face, worked outward, is the service. Reach for water only when air has failed: hand-warm, a little mild detergent, and a rinse carried on until the run-off is colourless. After that the element needs time more than anything else — open air, no warmth to hurry it, and no flame, radiator or hot-air gun in the room, since polyester and heat make a short story. It goes back into the airbox dry, with no oil and no spray of any kind. The maintenance sheet sits under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the airbox of the Ducati Streetfighter V2 955, listed here under model years 2020 to 2024. The 14 µm element mentioned above is catalogued for this machine under a narrower window, so check it before ordering. Six Ducatis in all share this assembly; the Fitment tab lists the years attributed to each.
