The Whole System, Not Just the Cans

This is the difference between blacking a T120 and blacking a Street Twin. On the smaller bike only the silencers change; here the collector goes dark as well, and on a Bonneville the collector is a large, visible run of pipe curving down and back on both sides.

The result is a motorcycle whose entire lower right-hand side stops reflecting. Against a chrome mudguard and polished engine cases that is a deliberate, fairly dramatic contrast — closer to a custom build than to an accessory.

Ceramic Where It Gets Hottest

Coating a collector is a harder job than coating a silencer. The pipe closest to the head runs at the highest temperature in the whole system, and it is exactly where bare stainless develops its straw-to-blue tint within a few thousand kilometres.

A cured ceramic layer does not tint and does not lift. That is the practical argument for the finish on a full system, as opposed to the purely visual one on a pair of slip-ons.

One Hundred and Nineteen Euro

The gap to GTR8804IOM. Nothing else changes: same collector geometry, same Hot Road silencers, same 5.0 kg, same Euro 4 approval with the standard catalyst in place.

For a treatment that covers roughly twice the surface area of a slip-on pair, that is a modest premium.

Read the Centre Stand Line First

Spark states that this system is not compatible with the centre stand, and that applies to both finishes. A T120 fitted with one will need it removed, and a bike used for touring or chain maintenance in a garage without a paddock stand may not want that.

Settle it before ordering. Spark's Trumpet slip-ons are the Euro 4 alternative that leaves the collector and the stand where they are.

Keeping a Coated System Clean

Warm water and a mild soap. Degreasers and car-wash chemistry make a ceramic surface patchy over a few seasons, and on a full system that is a lot of surface to have go uneven.

Installation

Everything from the cylinder head back is replaced except the converter. Spark's AISI 304 collector is dimensioned around the standard catalyst, which is the condition the Euro 4 paperwork was written under, and the two coated silencers hang from it on the factory mounting points.

Before ordering, check one thing on the motorcycle: this system is not compatible with the centre stand. A T120 fitted with one cannot keep it.

Fitment & Compatibility

Triumph Bonneville T120, 2016 to 2018. The brushed stainless version is GTR8804IOM at 1,423 euro. If the collector is to stay standard, Spark builds two approved slip-on pairs in the same black finish: GTR0208BOM with Trumpet silencers and GTR0209BOM with Sinfonia silencers, both 1,012 euro.

Road Approval

Euro 4 homologated, released by the Italian Ministry of Transport, with the original catalytic converter retained. The ceramic treatment plays no part in how the system meets the limit.
