DescriptionThe whole story▼
For the 2015 R1, the JP PLD 003 replaces the right-hand switch with a body machined from Ergal 7075 and anodised black.
Key Features
- Yamaha R1 (2015–2019)
- Full street control set
- Black anodised
- CNC-milled Ergal 7075
- Sealed switch elements
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
Titanium Rods and Magnesium Wheels
The 2015 R1 was built with materials that had previously belonged to homologation specials. Titanium connecting rods, a magnesium subframe and magnesium wheels took a considerable amount of unsprung weight out of a motorcycle that already handled well.
Crossplane From MotoGP
Yamaha's uneven firing order came directly from its Grand Prix programme, where it was credited with making the bike's rear-tyre behaviour readable at the limit. On the road it produces a sound and a delivery that no other inline four matches.
The Right-Hand Cluster
Starter, kill switch and the power mode selection. On a bike as heavily electronically managed as this one, the throttle-side controls are worked constantly between and during sessions rather than left alone.
Ten Years of Use
The earliest examples are now a decade old and most have seen circuits. The moulded housing does not fail; the two halves clipped around the clip-on develop play and the buttons across the joint go soft, gradually enough that the rider adapts.
Shared With the Ténéré
The same part number appears under the Ténéré 700 in this catalogue, which is a reminder that Yamaha keeps its handlebar interface consistent across motorcycles that have nothing else in common.
Sealed Construction
Elements sealed inside a housing with no moulded seam. A bike washed hot after a track session meets more water in an afternoon than a commuter does in a wet month.
Black Anodised
One finish on this part number, converted into the surface. On a track-prepared R1 a cockpit that draws no attention is easier to read at speed than one with a bright component in it.
