DescriptionThe whole story▼

A bagger is at its most awkward in a car park. Turning the MGX-21 around in a tight space means balancing a heavy motorcycle at walking pace, with the bars near full lock and the big 21-inch front wheel pointing the way out. The clutch decides whether that happens smoothly. The Accossato ESC023 is a clutch lever for the Moto Guzzi MGX-21 of 2016 to 2020, cut from aluminium on CNC machines, mounted where the original lever sat and adjustable in reach.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Moto Guzzi MGX-21, 2016 to 2020
  • Fits the original clutch mounting
  • Reach to the grip adjustable
  • Black hub, blade in seven colours
  • Three blade lengths depending on colour, standard about 138 mm
  • Milled from solid aluminium and anodised
  • No folding joint
  • No German ABE documented, for track use

Construction and Material Quality

From a solid aluminium blank to a finished lever, the ESC023 goes through CNC milling and anodising. The hub, which holds the pivot and adjuster, is anodised black; the blade is anodised in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. Blade and hub form a single rigid part. With no hinge anywhere in the lever, the friction zone sits at the same spot every time you look for it, which is exactly what slow manoeuvres need.

Tight Turns at Walking Pace

The technique for a slow U-turn on a heavy bike is well established: keep the engine at a steady low speed, control your pace with the clutch in its friction zone, drag the rear brake lightly for stability, and turn your head to look where you want to go. The front brake is left alone, because grabbing it with the bars turned can tip the bike over. All the fine work happens at the left hand, and the MGX-21 is heavy enough that any hesitation shows. Set the ESC023 closer to the grip for manoeuvres, so the fingers can hold the friction zone with the hand relaxed. A short blade, made in blue, gold, green, orange and silver, lets two fingers do this while the other two keep a firm hold on the grip. Practise in an empty car park, turning in both directions, until the combination of slipping clutch and light rear brake feels routine.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the MGX-21 1400 the years 2016 to 2020 for the ESC023, which is fitted at the bike's original clutch mounting in place of the stock lever. The EDF023 brake lever covers the same years. Black and red blades exist only in the standard length; the long blade is offered in blue, gold, green and orange.

Road Approval

The ESC023 has no documented German ABE. It is therefore sold for use on the track.
