Sprint Filter list four media against the Voge 300-class airbox and four against the 500-to-625 one. Against this housing they list two: the standard road weave and this element. There is no 14-micron rung in between, which makes the decision on a Valico 650DSX unusually blunt. You either leave the everyday panel where it is or take the entire step at once, from a rated 5,050 litres per square metre per second down to 560, and from an 80-micron aperture to 7.
Key Features
- The finest medium Sprint Filter build: 7 microns, rated at 560 l/m²/sec
- Dry polyester special nonwoven, never oiled and never treated after cleaning
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance elements in the same housing
- Catalogued for extreme conditions — loose ground, sand and dust that hangs in the air
- Identical fit to the standard element: straight into the unaltered airbox, mapping untouched
- Regenerated with an air line rather than replaced; two years of warranty from purchase
Two media and no middle step
Where a housing offers three or four media the buyer can move one rung and see what happens. Here the choice is binary, and the gap is close to a factor of nine in rated flow. That changes how the finer element is best used. Because both fit the same box in the same way, the sensible arrangement on this machine is to own the pair rather than to choose once: the road weave stays in for ordinary use, and SM254T12 goes in ahead of the trip that justifies it. Swapping takes minutes, the element coming out is cleaned and stored dry, and neither the airbox nor the mapping is touched.
When to put it in
The honest trigger is dust that stays airborne rather than terrain that looks adventurous — dry unsurfaced tracks, fields being worked alongside, sand, or riding far enough back in a group to breathe what the machine ahead throws up. There the retention is worth the flow it costs. On tarmac it is not, and a 650 twin held behind 560 litres per square metre per second all commuting season is paying a bill it never needed to open. No element inside a standard airbox makes this motorcycle noticeably stronger. The gain is a restriction that stays where it started because the panel is cleaned back to it, and a part serviced instead of repurchased.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, directed at the clean side and blown outward, is the standard service for SM254T12; on a fine medium that direction is the difference between removing the load and burying it. Lukewarm water with a mild detergent deals with what air leaves behind, followed by a thorough rinse. Drying happens in moving air at room temperature, well away from radiators, hot air guns and any kind of flame, and the element is refitted dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the airbox of the Voge Valico 650DSX, a 650 cm³ machine catalogued from 2022 to 2026, replacing the standard panel directly. This part number is listed against that single motorcycle; the entry, with dates, is in the Fitment tab.
