Line up the elements Sprint Filter builds for this airbox and one motorcycle goes missing. The standard weave and the racing weave each name four Suzukis; SM245P14 names three. The machine that drops out is the V-Strom 800DE, and it does not go unserved — the same housing gets the T12 off-road medium, catalogued for that model and no other. The fine end of the range has been divided along the machines rather than left to the buyer, and for a GSX-8S that division is what decides how far the ladder goes.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven rated at 14 microns — the finest element catalogued for the GSX-8S
- Flow rated at 1,800 l/m²/sec where the standard woven panel is rated at 5,050
- Depth-loading construction, pleated to carry far more material than a flat panel
- Steps into the place of the series element with airbox, ducting and calibration untouched
- Dry through and through, so nothing can be lifted off it and carried onto the intake sensors
- Washable and reusable across the life of the machine; warranty runs two years from purchase
Where the ladder stops for this model
Below 14 microns the catalogue simply does not go for a GSX-8S. That is not an oversight and not a shortcoming either: the T12 is rated at 560 l/m²/sec, drawn for a machine ridden in its own dust at low speed, and Suzuki's adventure model on this housing is where it belongs. For a naked road bike the practical answer to a season of dry, gritty roads is therefore not a finer medium but a shorter interval — open the box more often and clean SM245P14 before it has had time to fill. That policy is bearable only because the element is regenerated instead of replaced; with a disposable cartridge it would mean buying one every time.
What is given up, and what is not
1,800 against 5,050 across the same unit of surface is the honest cost, and a strong parallel twin is not a machine that has flow to spare in principle. Two things temper it: the element carries far more area than the panel it replaces, and on a series bike its share of the whole intake restriction is modest, which is why the fuelling needs nothing done to it. What is not on offer is performance. A drop-in filter does not make a standard GSX-8S faster, and if your riding is mostly clean tarmac and frequent use of the upper rev range, the woven P08 at 80 microns is the better balanced purchase.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, placed on the clean face and driven outward, is the whole routine; going the other way buries the dirt in a mat that stores it in depth. Water at hand temperature with a mild detergent handles what air leaves behind, and the rinse continues until nothing colours the water. Drying happens in open air alone, never with heat or flame, and the element goes back in dry. Cleaning instructions are attached to this page under the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Suzuki GSX-8S from 2023 to 2026, in the standard airbox. Three Suzuki models are listed for this element, one fewer than for the woven version; the Fitment tab names them with years.
