An unfaired motorcycle puts its rider in the same air the engine is drinking, which makes a Kawasaki Z1100 rider better informed about their own filter than any service table can be. Grit on the visor after a stretch of freshly dressed road. A hot afternoon on a farm road with a haze standing over the tarmac. None of that appears in a maintenance schedule, and all of it is direct evidence about what the intake is being fed. The Sprint Filter P14 PM111P14 is the element for riders whose own experience tells them their air is loaded: a dry non-woven medium that filters to 14 microns, where the standard P08 fabric filters to 80.
Key Features
- Dry non-woven fabric, holding at 14 microns and passing 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Low resistance comes from area: roughly double the surface of other performance filters
- Oil never touches it, so no film reaches the throttle bodies or sensors
- Standard airbox, standard position, element for element — no modification, no remap
- It is washable: compressed air from the clean side, and back in it goes
- Two years of warranty, on an element built to last as long as the motorcycle
The medium follows the route, not the odometer
Two Z1100 with identical mileage can be breathing air that differs by an order of magnitude. One commutes on swept urban dual carriageways in a wet climate; the other lives at the end of eight kilometres of unsealed lane in a region with long dry summers. Choosing a filter medium is the one point at which a rider can answer with what they actually know, and it deserves honesty in both directions: the P14 buys retention and pays for it in flow, 1,800 l/m²/sec against the 5,050 of the standard element. If the roads are clean and the bike is ridden hard and high in the rev range, the P08 is the better balance on a litre-class four. If the air is genuinely dirty, the finer medium answers the problem that is actually there.
Something you can check instead of guess
A washable element makes inspection free, and free inspections are the ones that get done. That is the honest benefit, and it is not a power claim: a plug-in filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and this one hands flow back on purpose. What it offers is an intake resistance that is stable across the whole interval rather than creeping upwards, finer retention while it does so, and a part that can be assessed after any ride that felt dirty rather than replaced on a date.
Care and cleaning
Nothing here is oiled, which keeps the cleaning plain: compressed air from the clean side, directed outwards. When the roads have earned more, lukewarm water and a mild detergent, then a rinse until the water runs clear. Drying happens in open air, nowhere near heat or a flame, and the element goes back in dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Kawasaki Z1100, 2026. The same PM111P14 element covers five machines built around this airbox, across the Ninja SX models and the two Bimota machines that use the engine; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
