Cloth area is a property of the airbox, not of the motorcycle. This racing weave is listed for the ZXMoto 500RR and for the Kove 450 RR, and both get the same panel with the same surface — which means the reserve above what the engine draws is smaller on the larger of the two. Not a problem at these displacements, but the right way to read a flow rating: it is measured per square metre, and the housing decides how many of those there are.

A rate is not an amount

Fifteen thousand litres per square metre per second describes what the material can pass. To turn it into an amount you need the area of cloth in the box and the time the engine spends actually asking for it — and on a 500 cm³ machine both of those are modest. The figure is therefore a statement about the medium and not a prediction about this bike. Said plainly: in an unmodified airbox this element leaves a standard 500RR exactly as strong as it was.

What does transfer

Retention does. On the 100-micron test this medium holds 95.22 % where the standard weave holds 93.13 % — two figures taken the same way, so the comparison is fair, and the gap is real but narrow. Nothing else separates the two elements: same dry handling, same washing routine, same warranty, same fit. The step up in price therefore buys those two percentage points and the material they come from, which is a smaller and more honest claim than the flow rating at the top of the sheet suggests.

Care and cleaning

Routine care of the SM261S F1-85 is compressed air on the clean side, worked outwards at low pressure. Washing follows only when air has stopped lifting anything: lukewarm water, a mild detergent, and rinsing until the water leaves clear. Drying is passive — moving air, room temperature, as long as it takes; heat guns, radiators and flames are excluded because the damage they do to a weave cannot be seen.
