A flow rating describes what a square metre of medium will pass when nothing else is in the way. On a running motorcycle something else always is: the throttle plate. A 200 Duke spends almost all its working life with that plate a few degrees open, and in that state the butterfly restricts the intake far more than any air filter ever made. Worth knowing before comparing the P08 F1-85, at 15,000 litres per square metre per second, with the P08 at 5,050. The racing weave gets there by opening from 80 microns to 85, and what it buys is only ever collected at the far end of the throttle.
Key Features
- Racing specification: dry polyester at 85 µm, flowing 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Three times the passage of the P08, bought by widening the mesh by five microns
- Never oiled, so nothing tacky sits upstream of the throttle body
- Direct fit in the standard airbox where the original panel sat; no remap required
- Compressed air is the entire service routine; warranted two years from purchase
- Built for competition — for road riding on a 200 Duke, look at the P08 or the P14
The restriction you meet, and the one you pay for
Wide-open throttle is the only condition in which an air filter has much of a say, and a road-ridden 200 Duke visits it in seconds at a time: an overtake, a slip road, a clear stretch. The rest happens with the intake throttled to a fraction of its area, where the pressure drop across the element is a rounding error next to the plate itself. So the extra flow is collected in seconds, while the wider weave is open in every hour in between. That asymmetry is the whole of the argument.
A trade, not a ranking
Finer cloth holds more back and passes less through; coarser cloth does the reverse. Sprint Filter's comparison puts the F1-85 at 95.22 per cent retention against the P08's 93.13, but both figures are measured on 100-micron particles, a size neither weave has trouble with, and say nothing about the band between 80 and 85 microns where the two actually differ. A drop-in element does not make a standard 200 Duke faster in any case; what it offers is a low intake restriction that gets reset rather than replaced. For that job the P08 is the standard answer, and on a dusty commute the P14, a dry nonwoven at 14 microns and 1,800 l/m²/sec, is better still.
Care and cleaning
Servicing the PM200S F1-85 needs an air line and nothing else: air against the clean side, worked outward until light shows through the weave again. A wash belongs later in its life — lukewarm water, a mild detergent, rinsed until nothing more comes away. The polyester then dries in moving air alone, never over a heater and never near a flame, and it is refitted only once it is dry the whole way through. The maintenance sheet lives in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the KTM 200 Duke, 2020 to 2026, sitting in the unmodified airbox in place of the standard element. One code serves thirteen machines here, KTM and Husqvarna alike, which is why the year matters as much as the model name when ordering. The list is in the Fitment tab.
