Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Triumph Speed Twin 1200 (2018–2026) PM217S

A large parallel twin with an uneven firing interval does not draw air in a smooth stream. It takes it in two distinct events per cycle, separated by an unequal gap, and each of those events is a sharp demand rather than a steady one. That is why the intake side is asked a harder question here than on a small, evenly firing engine. The Sprint Filter PM217S answers it with roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters, in a single dry layer of woven polyester that fits the standard airbox unmodified.

Peak demand, not average demand

Airflow through a filter is quoted as a steady figure, but a twin does not use it steadily. The medium has to pass a given volume during the short window in which an inlet valve is open, and it is that peak the element is really working against. A larger area of low-resistance weave gives the engine more of it in the same airbox, which is the whole point of folding twice as much surface into an unchanged space. The result is not more power on paper; it is a resistance the engine does not have to work around during the roll-on this motorcycle is built for.

Nine model years on one part number

The Speed Twin 1200 has been in the range since 2018 and shares this element with the Thruxton and with the smaller Speed Twin. For an owner that has a practical consequence: the PM217S is ordered by part number rather than by the name on the tank, it is not tied to a single model year, and it stays in production as long as any of the five machines it serves does.

Care and cleaning

What the filter has caught entered on the clean side, and that is the side it has to leave by: compressed air applied there and blown outwards. Anything the air line refuses is washed off with water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. After that the element dries fully in open air, with heat and flame kept away from it, and goes back into the airbox dry. The maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
