Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Kawasaki Versys 650 (2015–2026) PM163S

The Versys 650 is bought to go somewhere, usually with luggage on it and usually further from home than the dealer network is comfortable with. That is the argument for a washable element in a sentence: on a long trip the useful part is not a spare in a pannier, it is not needing one. Compressed air at any workshop, a petrol station line, or lukewarm water and a mild detergent in a hotel car park will return the Sprint Filter P08 PM163S to the restriction it had when it was fitted. Nothing has to be carried, ordered, or found in a country where the part number means nothing to anybody.

Serviceable where you are, not where the parts are

Touring exposes an air filter to conditions it would never see at home: roadworks, gravel service roads, dust behind trucks on a hot afternoon, then a week of rain. A disposable element in those conditions is a countdown — once it has loaded, the only fix is a new one, and the new one is wherever it was manufactured. A woven element is a maintenance item instead of a countdown. It is serviced and refitted the same day, as many times as the trip requires.

Eleven model years and a full load

This generation has been catalogued since 2015, and it is habitually ridden two-up with hard luggage — which is to say the engine spends long periods under genuine load rather than in short bursts. Sustained load moves a lot of air, so the element loads by volume rather than by odometer reading. Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters spreads that intake over more medium before the pressure drop begins to matter, and the P08 is built by Sprint Filter to last the life of the motorcycle rather than to a distance interval.

Care and cleaning

An air line is all the routine service asks for: compressed air from the clean side, blown outwards. Where the roads have been dusty, wash the element in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. It then has to dry out completely in open air — never with heat, never with a flame — before it goes back in dry. There is no oiling step.
