The sentence that has to come first

A drop-in filter does not make a standard Panigale V2 quicker. Intake tract, throttle bodies, injection and exhaust were developed together and homologated together with a filter already in the path, and no element sold for an unmodified housing rewrites that work. Anyone offering lap times from an air filter is selling something other than an air filter. What is genuinely on offer is narrower and more durable: one known intake resistance, restored on demand, for as long as the motorcycle stays in use.

Which is exactly why access matters

Take those two facts together — the part is awkward to reach, and its specification is fixed — and the property worth having is repeatability. A paper panel begins at its lowest restriction and rises from there until somebody replaces it, so its condition depends entirely on when the bodywork last came off. This one has a floor it returns to. The panels still have to come off, but what goes back in afterwards is not a slightly older version of what was there before.

Care and cleaning

With the element out, compressed air from the clean face outwards is the whole of a normal service; work steadily across the surface rather than concentrating on one area. A season of road grime that resists air comes away with warm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water clears. Then it dries in ambient air, entirely — no heat is applied at any stage and no flame goes near it — and it is refitted dry, with no oil and no spray.
