DescriptionThe whole story

The Scrambler 1200 puts its exhaust high on the right, directly alongside the rider's leg — which is what makes the bike look the way it does, and also what makes it warm in traffic. Akrapovic insulated the link pipes on this system specifically to address that, and then added 2.7 Nm at 3,600 rpm on top.

Key Features

  • Insulated link pipes, fitted to reduce the heat reaching the rider's leg on a high-mounted twin-pipe layout
  • 2.7 Nm more torque at 3,600 rpm and 2.5 PS (1.8 kW) more power at 6,850 rpm
  • Peak torque crosses 100 Nm: 100.0 Nm against the standard 98.2 Nm
  • 4.8 kg against 6.7 kg standard — 1.9 kg and 28.4 per cent less, all of it high on the machine
  • Titanium muffler outer sleeve
  • EC and ECE type approved with certificates supplied
  • Noise insert included, installation about 45 minutes with no remapping

Heat, and Why It Is Engineered Here

A high-level scrambler exhaust is a styling decision with a practical cost: the pipes run past the rider's shin. Akrapovic's answer on this system is insulation inside the link pipes rather than a bigger heat shield bolted over the top, which keeps the visual line of the bike intact while lowering the surface temperature where it matters.

Removing 1.9 kg from that same high position has a second effect. On a machine with a tall centre of gravity and long-travel suspension, mass carried up there is the most expensive kind, and 28.4 per cent of it is now gone.

Performance

The gain of 2.7 Nm lands at 3,600 rpm — right where a 1,200 cc twin is used on loose ground or pulling out of a corner at low revs. Peak power rises from 82.0 PS to 84.2 PS, and peak torque from 98.2 Nm to a round 100.0 Nm.

XC and XE Are Not the Same Motorcycle

Triumph sells the Scrambler 1200 in two states of tune of the chassis rather than the engine. The XC has 200 mm of travel and cast-in road manners; the XE has 250 mm, a longer swingarm, a 21-inch front wheel and is built to be ridden off the tarmac. Both carry the same twin high-level silencers in the same position, which is why this pair fits either.

On the XE that matters more than it sounds. A high-level system on a bike with a quarter of a metre of travel takes impacts a road bike never sees, and the mounting hardware supplied here is the standard Triumph geometry rather than a universal bracket.

Fitment and Compatibility

S-T12SO3-HCQT is developed for the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC and XE from model year 2019 through 2020. It connects to the original header and takes about 45 minutes.

Road Approval

EC type approval and ECE type approval. Both certificates ship with the exhaust and are downloadable here, which makes it a legal replacement silencer for road use in the European Union.
