DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two Accossato clutch levers exist for the XJR1300, and this one, the ESY688, is listed for the later bikes: 2015 and 2016, under the version name XJR 1300 C. Like the rest of the range it is machined from aluminium, anodised and adjustable for reach. That adjustment pays off in a situation every XJR1300 rider knows from town: waiting at a long red light in first gear, with the clutch pulled in and the air-cooled four ticking over beneath you.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the XJR1300, listed for 2015 and 2016
- Accossato version name: XJR 1300 C
- Fits the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance from blade to grip
- Long blade in gold, green, blue or orange for a lighter hold
- Standard blade about 138 mm in all seven colours
- Machined and anodised aluminium, black hub, fixed blade
Construction and Material Quality
CNC stands for computer numerical control: a milling machine follows a program and removes material from a solid block of aluminium until only the lever's shape remains. For the ESY688 that means crisp contours, an even section and the same geometry on every piece. Anodising follows, black for the hub with its pivot and adjuster, and one of seven colours for the blade. The lever is rigid, with no folding joint anywhere along its length, so the point where the clutch starts to take up does not wander.
In Gear at a Red Light
Many riders wait at traffic lights in first gear with the clutch pulled in, ready to move if something approaches too fast from behind. It is a sensible habit, but at a long red light it means holding the lever against its spring for a minute or more, and on a big four that is noticeable in the forearm. Two things make it easier. With the reach set closer, the fingers hold the lever in a curled position, where they are stronger. And the long blade gives more leverage, so the same hold needs less effort. Some riders select neutral once traffic has stopped safely behind them, then engage first again as the lights for the crossing traffic change. On the XJR1300, which spends much of its life on roads with junctions and lights, either approach feels better with a lever set to your hand.
Fitment and Compatibility
Only one XJR1300 entry in Accossato's list carries the ESY688: XJR 1300 C, 2015 to 2016. The ESC777, listed for 1999 to 2016, covers those two years as well, which is why comparing your original lever with the product photos before ordering is a good idea. The ESY688 replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting. On the brake side, Accossato's EDF016 covers the XJR1300 from 2004 to 2016.
Road Approval
As no German ABE is documented, this ESY688 is offered for use on race circuits.
