Every finer filter medium is bought with airflow, and the question worth asking is whether the engine will miss what was given up. The Sprint Filter P14 filters at 14 microns and passes 1,800 litres per square metre per second; the P08 element that fits the same housing filters at 80 microns and passes 5,050. That is a trade, not a ranking, and on the T-150 the trade is decided by displacement. A 150 cc single asks for a modest volume of air even at its peak. The flow the P14 hands back is flow this motorcycle was never in a position to spend, while the retention it gains applies whatever the engine is doing.
Key Features
- The P14 medium — a special non-woven fabric, used dry, stopping particles down to 14 microns
- 1,800 litres per square metre per second — the airflow given up for a finer weave
- No oil in the medium, so none can reach the throttle body or the sensors
- About twice the filtering surface other performance filters carry
- Sits where the original element sat: nothing modified, no remap, homologation as before
- Washable and reusable, with two years of warranty from purchase
Why a small single can afford the finer medium
The demand side of the equation is set by the engine alone: displacement, revolutions and throttle opening, nothing else. A 150 cc single at road speeds sits a long way below the ceiling the standard intake was built to clear, and that gap is exactly the headroom the P14 spends. On a large multi-cylinder engine the same swap would cut into flow that is genuinely called for; here it is taken from a surplus. It is also why the honest claim stays narrow. No element inside a standard airbox makes a production motorcycle noticeably stronger, and a medium that sets out to restrict more than the P08 certainly does not.
What is bought with the flow that was given up
Fourteen microns is not a marketing step below eighty; it is a different class of particle. The fine mineral fraction is the part that stays in the air long enough to be drawn in, and it is small enough to reach the places where an engine has no defence against it. Sprint Filter build a ladder of media for that reason: the water-repellent P037 at 37 microns and 4,500 litres per square metre per second, this P14 at 14 and 1,800, the T12 at 7 and 560 for extreme off-road use. Each step down holds back more and passes less, so picking the finest is not the same as picking the best.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean side, blown outwards, keeps the PM186P14 in service. Where the load goes beyond that, lukewarm water with a mild detergent will lift it; rinse until the water runs clear. Let it dry completely in the open air — no heat, no flame — before it goes back in dry. Nothing is oiled at the end, because nothing was oiled at the start.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha T-150, 2015 to 2026, and a direct replacement in the standard airbox. The same PM186P14 element is listed for six model names across that period; the full list is in the Fitment tab, and the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
