The bargain written into this element reads the same on every motorcycle: 14 µm of retention where the standard cloth offers 80, and 1,800 l/m²/sec of rated flow where the standard cloth offers 5,050. What differs from bike to bike is who pays the bill. The Hypermotard 698 Mono is the smallest engine in Ducati's Sprint Filter listing, and a small engine cannot call on a large share of what any medium offers. PM263P14 is that arithmetic applied to one supermoto.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven rated at 14 µm, the fine-particle grade for this Ducati housing
- Rated flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard woven panel — the price of the swap, stated plainly
- Never oiled: nothing to re-apply after washing, nothing that can travel downstream onto intake sensors
- Direct replacement for the series paper element, with no work on the box and no remapping
- Around double the filtering surface of an ordinary performance element
- Washed and refitted for the life of the machine; two years of warranty from purchase
Half of the trade scales with the engine, half does not
Retention and flow pull in opposite directions, and choosing one means paying in the other. That is a trade, not a ranking: a 14 µm mat is not a better filter than an 80 µm weave, it is a filter drawn for dirtier air. On a 698 cc single, only one side of that trade depends on the engine. Headroom above what the motor can draw goes unused, so surrendering rated flow costs this machine less than it costs the 1,100 and 1,200 cc twins elsewhere in the same catalogue. Retention is a property of the material and arrives in full whatever the bike is.
Where that leaves the decision
Neither element makes the bike quicker. A slot-in filter in an unmodified airbox leaves a standard Hypermotard 698 Mono exactly as strong as Ducati homologated it, and a fine grade hands back rated flow besides. So the question is only about air. If the roads under this bike are sealed and swept, the standard weave is the right answer and the mat a needless restriction. If they are unsurfaced often enough to be a habit rather than an outing, the mat earns its place.
Care and cleaning
Service the PM263P14 with an air line held to the clean side, working outward so the trapped load exits the way it entered. Heavier soiling comes away in lukewarm water and a mild washing-up detergent, rinsed until the water runs off clean. From there, room-temperature air alone: heat is what destroys this nonwoven, so no drying gun, no radiator, no flame. Refit it dry, with nothing sprayed onto the surface. The manufacturer's cleaning instructions are attached to this listing in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono of 2024 to 2026 and for no other motorcycle. Sprint Filter catalogues four media for this single housing, of which this is the second-finest; the build years covered are shown in the Fitment tab.
