Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Honda CB400X (2019–2026) CM220S

Most CB400X miles are short ones. It is the shape of bike people buy to ride every day — to work, across town, out on a Sunday when the weather allows — and a great many of those journeys end before the engine has properly finished warming up. That matters more to an air filter than outright mileage does. A cold, damp intake, repeated daily, is a harder life for a paper element than one long hot ride a week, because paper takes on moisture and does not entirely give it back. The Sprint Filter P08 CM220S is a dry polyester weave, and moisture is simply not a thing it holds.

Short journeys are the demanding ones

A commuting bike spends much of its life in exactly the conditions a filter dislikes: cool mornings, damp air, a lot of stop and start, and rarely long enough at temperature to dry anything out. Paper responds by softening at the folds and closing up slowly, and because the pressure drop across a filter rises with airflow rather than staying flat, that loss shows up most in the transient pulls the traffic keeps asking for. A woven polyester medium keeps its structure wet or dry, so the restriction the engine sees in March is the restriction it saw in June.

Servicing on the schedule the bike actually keeps

Daily bikes tend to be serviced by the calendar and ridden through everything in between. This element suits that rhythm: compressed air from the clean side takes a couple of minutes with the seat off, and there is no oiling step to get wrong or to forget. Sprint Filter designs the P08 to last the life of the motorcycle, so it is checked and refitted rather than bought again.

Care and cleaning

There is no oiling step, before a wash or after one. Routine service is compressed air from the clean side, worked outwards; a deeper clean means lukewarm water with a mild detergent and a rinse carried on until the water runs clear.
