DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins builds YA 965 for the Yamaha R9 and lists it for model years 2025–2026. On the R9 the rear unit does most of the work of keeping the chassis settled.

Key Features

  • Öhlins spring 21040-34 included
  • 62 mm working stroke
  • Adjustable overall length for ride-height and geometry changes
  • Model-specific fitment for the Yamaha R9 (2025–2026) — no modification required
  • Twin-tube TTX damper layout
  • Remote hydraulic spring-preload adjuster on a flexible hose
  • Adjustable compression damping via the gold click adjuster
  • Adjustable rebound damping through a dedicated click adjuster on the damper body

Damping Performance

Öhlins supplies spring 21040-34 with this unit. The recommended oil is 01309; using something else changes the damping the shim stack was set for. 62 mm is the stroke Öhlins specifies against the R9's ratio. Length is specified as 326 +4/-2 mm, adjustable at the unit without removing it. Compression and rebound are adjusted independently, so support under load can be set without changing how fast the wheel returns. Adjustment is by click rather than by feel, so a setting can be written down and returned to.

How Öhlins Builds It

The damper body is hard-anodised aluminium, which resists both corrosion and the thermal cycling a rear shock lives with. Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made. Gas pressure is set at the factory and holds through normal service intervals.

The TTX GP in Detail

Length is adjustable on most TTX GP numbers, which turns rear ride height into a setup variable rather than a fixed value. The twin-tube layout keeps compression and rebound circuits separate and both under pressure, which is what allows the adjusters to have a real, measurable effect across their whole range instead of only in the middle of it. The external reservoir carries the gas charge and keeps oil volume high, which slows the temperature rise.

The R9 in Particular

On a supersport machine, front-end feel under braking is what the rider trusts, and damping is what provides it.

Fitment and Compatibility

Öhlins part number YA 965 is the correct number for the Yamaha R9 as built 2025–2026. It is model-specific rather than universal: length, stroke and valving are all set for this chassis.

Road Approval

Road approval: not documented by Öhlins for the Yamaha R9. We do not state an approval we cannot evidence — please confirm the current status with us before ordering if you intend to use the motorcycle on public roads.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins suspension rewards careful fitting. We recommend having the work done by an authorised Öhlins service centre — and we are one ourselves: we fit, service and set up Öhlins components in house. If you would like us to handle the installation, just ask and we will quote it with the order.
