DescriptionThe whole story▼
A pulsing brake lever is one of the most common complaints on any road bike with a few years behind it, and the Yamaha XSR900 is no exception. The rhythm, felt in the fingers and sometimes through the bars, usually points to the front discs. Accossato lists the DKS073 for the XSR900 from 2016 to 2025: a floating front disc with a black carrier and a 298 mm friction ring, 5 mm thick, fixed to the wheel through five holes on a 150 mm circle.
Key Features
- Floating front brake disc for the Yamaha XSR900, 2016 to 2025
- Two-part build: friction ring riveted to a black carrier
- 298 mm across, 132 mm centre bore, 5 mm thick
- Five mounting holes of 8.5 mm on a 150 mm hole circle
- Interchangeable with the original disc, according to Accossato
- Minimum thickness printed on the disc
- Price per disc; the XSR900 carries two
- No German ABE on record; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
On the DKS073, friction ring and black carrier are separate parts joined by rivets, which give the ring a small amount of float relative to the carrier. The carrier's centre measures 132 mm, and five holes of 8.5 mm on a 150 mm circle bolt it to the wheel in place of the original disc, which Accossato says it can replace directly. The company relates its disc designs to racing, citing Superbike alongside Moto2 and Moto3, and prints the minimum working thickness on each disc.
When the Lever Starts to Pulse
Not every pulse comes from a bent disc. More often the cause is uneven pad deposits: after a hard stop, hot pads held against the disc at a standstill can leave an imprint of pad material, and that patch grips differently from the rest of the surface. The effect feels just like a warp. A disc with genuine run-out, on the other hand, wobbles relative to the caliper, and a workshop can measure that with a dial gauge while the wheel turns.
On an XSR900 the diagnosis starts with a look and a spin. Lift the front wheel, turn it slowly and watch each disc against its caliper. Look for darker patches or blotches on the braking surface. Check the rivets of the floating ring: slight movement is normal, a rivet that is clearly loose is not. Make sure the wheel bearings have no play, because a worn bearing can mimic a disc fault. If the discs run true and the problem is deposits, a bedding-in routine with firm stops can sometimes clear them. If a disc is bent, or close to the minimum thickness printed on it, replacement is the answer. Where both front discs are worn, change them together and fit new pads, so the fresh surfaces start out even.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DKS073 for the XSR900 from 2016 to 2025, from the first ABS model through the Abarth edition to the version built from 2022 and the Legend Blue. The XSR900 uses two front discs and the price is for one, so plan on two for a complete change. The Elite-line DK077 is Accossato's other listing for the same bike and years. When the old discs come off, clean the mounting faces of the hub, since a speck of dirt under a disc can cause the very pulsing you are trying to cure.
Road Approval
No German ABE covers the DKS073, and no type approval is documented. We supply it for use on the racetrack.
Scope of Delivery
