DescriptionThe whole story▼

Tight hairpins decide many enduro tests, and right-handers have a particular way of ending badly. On the Sherco SEF 250 four-stroke you brake late, tip the bike in and try to pivot round the inside, and if the front washes or the revs drop, the bike falls into the turn, onto its right side and onto its brake lever. The B8282, Accossato's front brake lever for the SEF 250 from 2014 to 2022, is CNC-machined from Ergal 7075 and sized for three fingers, and its blade sits on a joint that lets it fold forward in such a fall.

Key Features

  • Folding front brake lever for the Sherco SEF 250 four-stroke, 2014 to 2022
  • Takes the place of the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
  • Joint that can let the blade tip forward instead of breaking
  • Three-finger blade
  • Machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
  • Blade in black or orange above a dark base
  • No German ABE documented; for off-road riding and competition

Construction and Material Quality

Each B8282 is milled in Italy from a solid piece of Ergal 7075, the high-strength aluminium alloy Accossato relies on when it wants a lever to be strong, light and reliable. Instead of a cast body you get a machined one in two parts: the dark base that holds the lever at the master cylinder, and the blade, in black or orange, which is joined to the base and can fold. The blade has Accossato's brake-side length, enough for three fingers.

The Right-Hand Hairpin

The usual technique for a tight hairpin combines braking, weight and throttle. Brake hard on the approach while the bike is still upright, release the front as it tips in, put the inside foot forward and pivot round the turn on the rear brake and throttle. The front brake has done its job before the turn begins; a squeeze mid-turn is what tucks the front wheel.

When it goes wrong, it goes wrong quickly. The front wheel slides on the inside line, the bike falls into the hairpin, and the brake lever hits the ground on the inside of the turn, often with the rider's leg partly underneath. The SEF 250 is not a heavy bike, yet the lever takes the brunt. On the B8282, a joint between base and blade lets the blade tip forward instead of meeting the impact head-on, so it is more likely to come out of the fall still working. You still have to pick up the Sherco SEF 250 and restart, but with a front brake you can ride the next hairpin with some confidence.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato specifies the B8282 for the Sherco SEF 250 four-stroke from 2014 to 2022. The C7283 is the folding clutch lever it lists for the same machine and years. Blades for the brake lever come in black or orange; the clutch lever offers those two plus blue and red.

Road Approval

No German ABE covers the B8282. Mounted on a road-registered SEF 250 it is not approved for public roads; it is intended for off-road and competition use.
