Ducati ownership is organised around one appointment. Desmodromic valve gear closes the valves mechanically rather than with springs, so every clearance is set by hand — the largest planned expense in the motorcycle's life. It is counted in kilometres and booked in advance. Dust counts nothing and books nothing. Somewhere between two of those appointments the element in a Panigale V2 stops being the part that was fitted, and a distance-based schedule cannot notice.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven rated at 14 microns, the fine-dust grade for this Ducati airbox
- Rated flow of 1,800 litres per square metre per second, against 5,050 for the standard woven P08
- Around twice the filtering surface of an ordinary performance element
- One element per motorcycle, sitting where the original does: no cutting, no adaptor, no remap
- Never oiled, so no film can travel downstream onto the intake sensors
- Cleaned and refitted rather than thrown away; two years of warranty from purchase
Two calendars that never meet
A service plan is written in distance, because distance is the one thing a motorcycle counts for itself. What loads an air filter is the volume of air pulled through it and what that air carried — a fortnight behind farm traffic asks more of an element than a wet month of motorway. On a faired V2 the box sits under bodywork, so nobody glances at it in passing. This element does not repair that mismatch; it makes it cheap to correct. A washable panel comes out, is blown through and goes back whenever the owner decides, at the cost of an hour.
What the finer grade actually buys
Retention and flow pull against each other, and the ticket is written the moment you choose. Fourteen microns hold back a fraction an 80-micron weave was never drawn to catch; 1,800 against 5,050 is a little over a third of the standard rating, given up on purpose. Nobody should expect to feel the swap through the throttle. A slot-in element does not make a standard Panigale V2 quicker, and a fine one hands back headroom besides. What it offers is a restriction that stays nearer its starting value, and a part serviced rather than binned.
Care and cleaning
Routine servicing is one air line, directed at the clean face and worked outward so the load leaves by the path it came in. A greasy film comes off in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until clear. Then room-temperature air and nothing else: no heat gun, no flame, since heat is the one thing that genuinely ends this material. The PM279P14 goes back into the airbox dry, with nothing sprayed onto it. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Ducati Panigale V2 of 2025 and 2026, the 890 cc machine. Three further bikes share the code — Hypermotard V2 and Monster V2 of 2026, Streetfighter V2 of 2025–2026 — four entries, all on the same 890 engine. The earlier 955 cc Panigale V2 built up to 2024 is a different motorcycle with a different airbox and an element of its own. Order on the code and the year of build, never on the badge.
