A Tenere earns most of its interesting kilometres where the tarmac has run out, and that is also where the air stops being clean. Gravel roads, field tracks and a following wind put more dust through an airbox in one afternoon than a month of commuting does, and none of it shows up on the odometer. The Sprint Filter P08 CM148S is built for exactly that mismatch: a dry woven polyester element that is blown clean with an air line and refitted the same day, instead of a paper cartridge that has to be ordered, waited for and thrown away.
Key Features
- A dry P08 polyester medium that is never oiled, so nothing migrates onto the intake sensors
- 80 microns of filtration, with an airflow of 5,050 litres per square metre per second
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters
- The standard airbox takes it as a direct replacement — no modification, no remap, homologation unchanged
- It is washable and reusable, and compressed air does the normal service
- Two years of warranty, dated from purchase
Dust keeps its own calendar
Service schedules count kilometres because kilometres are easy to count. A filter does not age that way — it ages by the volume and the quality of the air that has passed through it. Two riders can reach the same service interval with elements in completely different condition, one from motorway commuting and one from a summer of dry tracks. The practical answer is not a shorter interval but an element you can inspect and restore whenever the conditions suggest it, without a parts order standing between the decision and the repair.
Why this element is dry, and what dry costs
Oiled cotton gauze works by making the air sticky, which means the oil is a consumable that lives upstream of a heated-film sensor and a set of throttle bodies. Sprint Filter measured a four-layer oiled cotton filter retaining 76.42 per cent of 100-micron particles; the dry P08 retained 93.13 per cent of the same test dust. If the route is genuinely severe, Sprint Filter weave finer media — the water-repellent P037 at 37 microns, the T12 at 7 microns — and every step finer costs flow: the P08 passes 5,050 litres per square metre per second, the T12 passes 560. That is a trade, not a ranking. For a road-legal adventure twin that also sees gravel, the P08 sits at the sensible end of it.
Care and cleaning
After a day on gravel the element comes out and takes compressed air from the clean side outwards. When more than that is needed, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Let it dry completely in open air, never with heat and never with a flame, and refit it dry. No oiling step exists at any point, because the polyester has never been oiled. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
