DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki has kept the ZX-6R in production long enough that "2013 to 2026" covers three distinct faces of the same motorcycle. What has stayed constant is the ignition mounting — and, for US-specification bikes, a wiring arrangement that differs from the European one. The JP KS KA024 is the switch cut for that US harness.
Key Features
- Specific to the US-version ZX-6R wiring, 2013 through 2026
- Replaces the ignition block, barrel and key outright
- Around 350 g removed from the steering head
- Ergal billet housing with an IP69K-sealed push button
- Key Box supplied for machines carrying an immobiliser
- Uses the factory connector and mounting points
Why the US Version Has Its Own Part Number
Kawasaki wires the ignition circuit differently on US-market ZX-6Rs than on European ones, and the difference is in the connector rather than anything visible from the saddle. A switch built for a European harness will not simply plug into a US bike. This is the reason JetPrime lists two part numbers for what looks like one motorcycle, and the reason it is worth checking the bike's origin before ordering rather than after.
Living With It
A 636 that spends its weekends on track has no use for a lock, and the barrel is the one part of the cockpit that still assumes it will be parked on a street. Once it is gone the top yoke reads as intended equipment rather than as a leftover. The button travel is short and definite — findable with a gloved thumb, firm enough not to be nudged by a knee.
Fitment and Compatibility
- Kawasaki ZX-6R, US version (2013–2026)
Road Approval
None. The switch removes a component covered by the motorcycle's type approval and is sold for closed-circuit and competition use only.
In the Box
The kit is supplied complete: the Ergal switch body with the IP69K button fitted, the Key Box housing, and the harness tail that mates to the US-specification ZX-6R ignition plug. There is nothing to source separately and nothing to solder. If the bike has already lost its immobiliser to a race loom, the Key Box simply goes unused.
