DescriptionThe whole story▼
Four point four kilograms down to one point nine. The Akrapovic Slip-On Line (Carbon) S-K6SO7-HZC/3 removes 56.8 per cent of the Ninja ZX-6R's standard silencer mass — the single largest weight saving of any part you can bolt to this bike for the money — and it keeps Euro 5 EC and ECE type approval while doing it.
Key Features
- 1.9 kg against the standard 4.4 kg: 2.5 kg gone, a 56.8 per cent reduction
- Handmade carbon fibre muffler outer sleeve, end cap and heat shield, over a high-grade stainless steel inner structure and link pipe
- The heat shield is supplied to cover the exhaust valve in the link pipe — it is part of the system, not an extra
- 1.9 PS (1.4 kW) more at 9,000 rpm and 1.7 Nm more at 7,500 rpm, measured against a standard ZX-6R on the Akrapovic dyno
- Euro 5 EC and ECE type approved
- Noise insert included, plug-and-play in about 25 minutes with no remapping
- One part number covers seventeen model years of the ZX-6R and the 636
Where the Weight Comes From
A Euro 5 supersport silencer is heavy because it has to be: double-skinned steel, a large expansion volume and an exhaust valve. Replacing the outer body with hand-laid carbon fibre and the internal structure with thin-wall stainless steel is what takes two and a half kilograms off, and on a 190 kg motorcycle that sits high and behind the rear axle, that is felt in how quickly the bike changes direction rather than on the dyno.
The carbon here is not a wrap over steel. Sleeve, end cap and heat shield are all laid up by hand, which is why the weave runs continuously along the body instead of breaking at the clamp.
Performance and Sound
Peak power moves from 117.7 PS to 118.6 PS, and the measured gains — 1.9 PS at 9,000 rpm and 1.7 Nm at 7,500 rpm — sit in the middle of the range rather than at the 13,300 rpm peak. On a 636 that is the useful place for them. Akrapovic describes the result as a deep and vivid sound; a removable noise insert is included for circuits with their own limit.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-K6SO7-HZC/3 covers the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and the 636 from model year 2009 through 2026. Two fitment notices matter before ordering. On model year 2024 and newer machines this exhaust is the appropriate replacement for a stock system carrying the E1 KHI K 729 approval marking. And the product was developed and tested on EU-specification motorcycles; fitment and measured performance on machines built for other markets can differ.
Two optional parts exist: a stainless steel link pipe (L-K6SO8/2) and a carbon fibre muffler bracket (P-MBK10R2/2). Fitting the optional link pipe invalidates the EC and ECE certificate of this silencer and makes the combination a closed-circuit part.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval to Euro 5, with the certificates supplied and downloadable from this page. As delivered, without the optional link pipe, the silencer is a legal replacement for road use in the European Union.
