A single converter, sold on its own, for one of the strangest motorcycles Kawasaki has built this decade: a 249 cc inline four that revs past 17,000 rpm. It is not a part many people will need, and the ones who do will know exactly why.

One Unit, Not Two
Akrapovic sells some converters in pairs, where an engine splits its exhaust into two paths and each needs its own. This is not one of those. The ZX-25R runs its four cylinders into a single collector, so a single converter does the whole job.
The part number is what to check when ordering: a set carries its own number and a different price.
What the Approval Data Says, and Does Not
Akrapovic files this converter under its racing programme and records no EC or ECE approval against it. That is worth taking at face value rather than assuming that fitting a converter automatically makes an exhaust road legal.
Where an Akrapovic system for a given motorcycle is approved on condition that a converter is installed, the paperwork names which converter. Read that condition rather than inferring it.
Why a Converter Costs This Much
The metal honeycomb is the cheap part. What it is coated with is not: palladium, rhodium and platinum, in quantities small enough to be invisible and expensive enough to dominate the price.
It is also why a used converter is a poor purchase. The coating cannot be inspected, and a unit that has been overheated or contaminated looks identical to one that works.
An Unusual Engine
Four cylinders in 249 cc means each one displaces about 62 cc. Kawasaki built the ZX-25R for markets where a 250 is the top of a licence class, and gave it a redline no other current 250 comes close to.
An engine like that is fussy about exhaust flow in a way a single or a twin is not, which is why Akrapovic bothered to develop a converter matched to its own system rather than leaving the standard one in place.
Not an Exhaust System
What is in the box: one catalytic converter. No silencer, no headers, no link pipe. This is a component of an exhaust, not an exhaust.
Three Model Years
The part covers the ZX-25R from 2020 to 2022. Kawasaki has continued to develop the machine since, and later bikes should be checked against the current fitment data before ordering.
Road Approval
Akrapovic records no EC or ECE type approval for this converter. Do not assume it makes an exhaust system road legal on its own.
