DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ride a Desert X down a steep, rutted track and you will almost certainly be standing on the pegs. From that position the rear brake is worked with the ball of the right foot, gently and with feeling, because on loose ground the rear wheel locks easily and starts to slide. Off-road, that pedal becomes one of the most important controls on the bike. For the Desert X 937 of 2022 to 2024, Accossato lists the TS012, a cap for the rear brake fluid reservoir, machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised in seven colours.
Key Features
- Rear brake fluid reservoir cap for the Ducati Desert X, 2022 to 2024
- Made for the original rear reservoir, according to Accossato
- Aluminium, machined on CNC equipment, anodised
- Seven colours: orange, red, gold, silver, black, blue, green
- Accossato's FP004 oil filler cap listed for the same bike
- Check fitment against the application list
- No German ABE on file; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the TS012 from aluminium and anodises it, choosing the colour at that final stage: orange, red, gold, silver, black, blue or green. The cap is made for the original rear reservoirs of the bikes on Accossato's list, which means that on the Desert X only the cap is replaced, while master cylinder, hose and caliper remain as Ducati fitted them. Beneath the old cap lies the original diaphragm or seal. Examine it closely while the reservoir is open, and use a new one if it has turned brittle or lost its shape.
Standing Up on the Descent
Off-road instructors spend a lot of time on the rear brake. On a steep descent they teach riders to stand, keep their weight back, look well ahead and let engine braking do part of the work, adding the rear brake in smooth doses and saving the front for firmer ground. That style depends on a pedal that behaves the same way every time. If it feels soft, or the point where the brake bites starts to wander, the fluid may be old or air may have got into the system; both are jobs for before the next trip, not during it. On an adventure bike the reservoir also lives a dirty life. After a dusty or muddy day, clean the area around it with a damp cloth before you open anything, because grit that falls into the fluid stays there. Hold the Desert X upright so the level reads correctly between the marks, keep the reservoir open briefly since the fluid draws in moisture, and wash any spill off paint with water immediately. Fasten the TS012 gently and press the pedal a few times at a standstill. Only a firm, predictable pedal is ready for the next steep track.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list the TS012 is given for the Desert X 937 of 2022 to 2024, as the cap for the original rear reservoir. Inter-Pace also carries the same cap for Benelli's TRK 502 and for the Hyperstrada 939. The Desert X has a second Accossato cap as well: the FP004 for the oil filler, which comes in every colour of the TS012 plus titanium. Compare your bike with the application list before ordering, particularly if the rear brake has been changed.
Road Approval
For the TS012 no ABE or test mark is available to us, which is why we sell it for racing and other competition use.
