DescriptionThe whole story▼

In 2016 the Hypermotard 939 replaced the 821, with a larger engine and the same tall, supermoto-inspired shape. Production ended in 2018, so every 939 for sale today is a used bike, and buyers learn to read the small signs of how one has been kept. The oil filler is one of the most revealing. Accossato's FP004 is listed for the Hypermotard 939 of 2016 to 2018, the SP included: an aluminium oil filler cap, cut on CNC machines and anodised, with an M20x2.5 thread.

Key Features

  • Oil filler cap for the Ducati Hypermotard 939, 2016 to 2018
  • Includes the 939 SP and the 939 SP U on Accossato's list
  • M20x2.5 thread, according to Accossato
  • Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
  • Colours: titanium, silver, black, red, gold, blue, orange, green
  • Accossato also lists the TS003, TS012 and TS014 caps for the same bike
  • No German ABE on file; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The FP004 is aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised, and the anodised layer is what you see as colour: titanium, silver, black, red, gold, blue, orange or green. The thread Accossato gives is M20x2.5, the size that defines this cap. Treat it the way a careful owner treats any filler: turned by hand, never gripped with pliers, its thread and seating face kept free of grit. Habits like these leave no marks, and marks are exactly what an attentive buyer looks for on a used Hypermotard 939.

What the Filler Says About a Used 939

When you view a used Hypermotard 939, ask to see it cold and look at the oil filler before the engine is started. A cap with chewed edges or tool marks suggests that someone forced it with pliers, which makes you wonder what else was done with too much force. Oil around the filler or down the crankcase can point to a cap that was not seated properly or to an overfilled engine. The service book should show oil changes at the intervals in the owner's manual, ideally with dates, mileages and invoices. Ask the seller to show you the level the way the manual describes, and notice whether they know how. After buying, many new owners change the oil straight away, so they know exactly what is in the engine and when the count started. That is a natural moment to fit the FP004. Open the filler only once the engine is off and has cooled, keep dirt out of the opening, clean the thread and the seating face, and screw the new cap home by hand, stopping as soon as it is snug. Then write the date in the service book: the next buyer of your Hypermotard 939 will read the same signs.

Fitment and Compatibility

On Accossato's application list the FP004 covers the Hypermotard 939 of 2016 to 2018, together with the 939 SP and the 939 SP U of those years. Accossato describes it as adaptable to other motorcycles whose cap has the same M20x2.5 size, and the Inter-Pace catalogue shows it for the Hypermotard 950 and the Monster 1200 too. For the Hypermotard 939, Accossato's range includes a front reservoir cap, the TS003, and two rear reservoir caps, the TS012 and the TS014, all offered in seven of the FP004's eight colours.

Road Approval

As far as our documents go, there is no ABE or test mark for the FP004; we therefore sell it for the racetrack and for competition.
