The airbox of an F4RC LH is a fixed volume with a fixed mouth. MV Agusta settled both, and an element that fits without modification is not permitted to alter either. So when Sprint Filter says this one carries roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance filters, that surface has to be found inside a shape that is not allowed to grow. The constraint is more interesting than it first sounds, because area is where a racing weave quietly collects most of its low resistance.
Key Features
- Around double the filtering area of other performance filters, within the standard outline
- Racing polyester at 85 µm with a rated throughput of 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Framed WorldSBK assembly, supplied complete and ready to seat
- Used dry throughout — never oiled new, never re-treated after cleaning
- No modification to the housing and no remapping required
- Designed to last the life of the motorcycle, warranted for two years
Twice the cloth in the same outline
Double the area means each square centimetre of weave passes about half as much air per second as it otherwise would. This matters because the pressure a medium costs climbs with the speed of the air crossing it, not merely with the amount. The same cloth spread over twice the surface is therefore a gentler obstacle at the same demand, without a single dimension of the airbox being touched. That is a packaging achievement rather than a performance one, and it is worth naming plainly: an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger.
The half of the specification with no trade in it
Throughput can be bought in two ways. Opening the weave is the first, and it is always a trade: a coarser aperture and a higher rated flow are two descriptions of one decision, which is why Sprint Filter publishes a row of media rather than a ranking of them. Adding area is the second, and it costs nothing except the difficulty of folding it in. Every media table an owner reads compares the first kind. The second sits underneath all of them and is never the thing being argued about, which is a strange fate for the half that has no downside.
Care and cleaning
Regeneration is mechanical here. Direct compressed air onto the clean side of R189S F1-85-SBK, working outward across the whole surface, and most of what the weave collected leaves the way it entered. A wash is the exception: warm water, a mild detergent worked through gently, then a rinse repeated until the water is clear. Give it as long as it needs in open air afterwards. Never apply heat to speed that up, from a gun, a radiator or a flame, because polyester goes before the moisture does. Refit dry. Details are on the sheet under Downloads.
