The GSX-S950 shares this airbox with the litre bike above it, but not the engine's intentions: Suzuki gave it a fuller middle rather than a chased peak, and that is where the choice between the two versions of this element is made. Everything the F1-85 medium adds over the standard P08 is capacity to pass air — 15,000 litres per square metre per second against 5,050 — and capacity of that kind is only ever spent at the top of the rev range with the throttle wide. On a version tuned to be enjoyed below that point, the advantage sits somewhere the rider rarely goes, while the price of it is paid on every ride.
Key Features
- Racing-grade P08 F1-85 polyester, worked dry — no oil film anywhere ahead of the throttle bodies
- Rated at 15,000 litres per square metre per second, around three times the standard P08's 5,050
- Weave aperture 85 microns against the road P08's 80 — the coarser mesh is what buys the flow
- Carried on a large media area, so low resistance comes from surface and not from a thinner barrier
- Goes into the series airbox as it stands: nothing cut, nothing remapped
- Cleaned with an air line and used again; two years of cover run from the day of purchase
Where the extra capacity would be spent
Air demand climbs with revs and with throttle opening, and only in the last third of the rev range does a road airbox look like a restriction at all. The 950 was tuned to make its case earlier than that. Ridden the way the model invites — a firm roll-on out of a bend, short bursts, an engine that answers early — the intake is nowhere near its limit, and an element with three times the flow of the standard one has nobody asking for it.
What the coarser weave asks in return
The flow does not appear from nowhere. Opening the mesh to 85 microns is an opening in every second of every ride, not only in the moments that would justify it. Sprint Filter's comparison — 95.22 per cent of 100-micron test particles held by the F1-85 against 93.13 for the P08 — describes coarse debris and says nothing about the fine fraction, which is the part that reaches the oil and stays in circulation. Racing lives with that because it counts an engine's life in hours under load and strips it on that schedule. If this GSX-S950 is maintained by the road book and the odometer, that side of the bargain is not being kept and the standard P08 in the same fitment is the better-argued part. Run on an hours-based plan, the trade becomes a reasonable one.
Care and cleaning
Service on the PM236S F1-85 is short work: an air line held to the clean face, blowing outwards until the media is clear. Where a season has left more behind it washes in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, then dries in open air alone — no heat gun, no flame near it. It goes back into the airbox dry. The maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki GSX-S950, 2022 to 2026, seating in the standard airbox with nothing altered around it. Four machines in the range take this same element; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
