Ask for an air filter for a ZX10R and the first question back should be the model year. Kawasaki carried that name across generations whose intake hardware does not interchange, and the catalogue splits accordingly: the PM110S is the panel for machines built from 2011 to 2015, while bikes from 2016 onwards take a different code entirely. One name, two elements, and nothing on the outside of the motorcycle announces which is which. It is the most common way the wrong part is ordered for a superbike, and it is avoided by buying the code against the year.
Key Features
- One layer of dry woven polyester; no filter oil is used on it at any stage
- 80 microns of filtration at 5,050 l/m²/sec, the road and track specification
- Polyester thread from ø 22 microns upwards — the opening comes from the weave itself
- Roughly double the filtering surface of the usual performance element
- Straight swap for the paper panel in the standard airbox — nothing cut, nothing remapped
- Cleaned and reused for the life of the machine; two years of warranty from purchase
Where the split falls, and why it is invisible
Model years are a poor identifier for most things on a motorcycle and an excellent one here, because intake parts follow the airbox and airboxes change when a generation changes. On this machine the line runs at the end of 2015. Registration year and build year can differ by a season on a bike sold late, so the frame number is the safer reference if there is any doubt. A panel a few millimetres out will still go into the box and still look as though it belongs there, and an intake that does not seal is worse than a dirty filter.
A washable panel on a bike that has stopped depreciating
These are motorcycles in their second decade now, many of them track bikes or fair-weather machines kept for what they are. Both uses reward an element that is serviced instead of bought: a paper panel for a discontinued superbike is an order, a wait and a bin, while this one is an air line and ten minutes. Fitting the PM110S will not make a standard ZX10R noticeably stronger — a filter returns only the restriction it introduced — but it keeps that restriction where the factory put it, at the end of an interval as well as the start.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side, blown outwards, so the dirt leaves by the route it took getting in. That covers ordinary road and track use. When it does not, lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent will, rinsed through until the water runs clear. Dry the element completely in moving air — never with a heat gun, on a radiator or over a flame — and put it back dry, with nothing applied to the cloth. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the standard airbox of the Kawasaki ZX10R Ninja + ABS built from 2011 to 2015. That single machine is the whole fitment list for this code, shown under the Fitment tab. The narrowness is the point: one generation of one model, with the years effectively part of the code.
