Short production runs are kind to the people who buy them and unkind to the people who keep them. The Z1000 R was catalogued for four model years, and a special edition built in those numbers is exactly the sort of machine whose model-specific parts quietly disappear from dealer shelves first. The intake is where that hurts least and is fixed most easily. The Sprint Filter P08 PM111S is not a Z1000 R part — it is an airbox part, shared across a whole family of Kawasaki fours — and it is washed and refitted rather than consumed, which makes the question of future supply almost academic.

A platform part under a limited model

The R edition earned its badge with brakes, suspension and finish, not with a different way of breathing. Its airbox is the family airbox, which is why one part number spans twelve machines here. That is the useful part: demand for this element is not tied to how many Z1000 R were built, so it is supported by the whole platform rather than by one four-year edition. A rider keeping the bike for another decade is drawing from a much deeper well than the model's own production figures would suggest.

Bought once, then serviced

The other half of the answer is that the element does not need replacing at all. A paper filter is at its best on the day it is fitted and marginally worse every day after; it is designed to be thrown away. Woven polyester is designed to be cleaned. Compressed air from the clean side returns it to the restriction it had when new, Sprint Filter build it to last the life of the motorcycle, and the two-year warranty covers the part rather than a service interval. Nobody has to keep a spare on the shelf for a bike that is no longer in production.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air, from the clean side and blown outwards, returns it to where it started. When a season has been especially dirty, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear, then dry it fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame — and refit it dry.
