This SM247S carries the P08 weave; the identical housing also accepts a T12 built from a far denser non-woven. The airbox itself has no opinion. Which of the two belongs in it is a statement about the roads actually ridden, not about the motorcycle, and for most Transalps — machines that see far more tarmac than piste in any given year — the P08 is the honest default, not the timid one.

Key Features

Dry polyester weave, single layer, never oiled, so nothing can be carried down the intake onto the sensors

80 µm filtration at 5,050 l/m²/sec of flow: Sprint Filter's standard road and track specification

Fibre diameter starts at ø 22 microns, with the aperture set by how the cloth is woven

About twice as much cloth standing in the airflow as a typical sports element

Fits where the paper panel came out; ducting, housing and the factory fuel map are all left as they are

Cleaned and put back instead of thrown away, and guaranteed by Sprint Filter for two years

What the finer medium costs

The trade is arithmetic rather than marketing. The P08 filters at 80 µm and flows 5,050 l/m²/sec; the T12 works at 7 µm and flows 560. Tighter material holds back more and passes less, and it also loads up sooner, because the dust it catches stays on the surface instead of travelling on. That is worth paying for in deep dust and sand, where whatever slips through a coarser weave is measured in engine life. On a European touring route it buys retention nobody needed and gives away headroom every kilometre. Neither is the better filter; they are aimed at different air.

Choosing for the year, not for the weekend

The awkward part is that this is a standing decision. An element is fitted for a season, so it should suit the air the bike breathes most of the time, and then be swapped on purpose when a genuinely dusty trip is planned. Anyone heading for a gravel-heavy stretch can move to the T12 for that leg and come back afterwards — the fitment does not change, only the medium does. What neither choice does is add power: a drop-in filter cannot make a standard Transalp noticeably quicker, and the useful claim is the smaller one, an intake restriction that holds steady on a part that is serviced rather than consumed.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air is the routine, blown against the clean side so the dirt is pushed back out of the weave instead of deeper into it. When a long wet stage has left more behind than air will shift, the SM247S can be washed in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinsed until it runs clean, then left in the open to dry at its own speed. Never use heat or a flame to hurry that along, and never refit it damp or treated. The Sprint Filter care sheet sits in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the airbox of the Honda XL750 Transalp built from 2023 to 2026. Two machines share the element: this one and the naked CB750 Hornet of those years.
