DescriptionThe whole story▼
A good number of riders on a Yamaha YZ450F are coming back to motocross after years away. Work, family or injury kept them off the track, then the itch returned, and the bike they bought is quicker than anything they raced before. Their judgement of speed takes a while to catch up, and it shows first at the braking points. For this bike Accossato offers the B8265, a folding front brake lever listed for the YZ450F from 2008 to 2022. It is cut on CNC machines in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a short three-finger blade on a joint that can let it fold forward.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Yamaha YZ450F, 2008 to 2022
- Listed for the 2008 model and for the 2009–2022 bikes
- Replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder
- Short blade, three-finger layout
- Anti-break joint gives the blade room to fold forward
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black, blue or green blade on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and closed-course use
Construction and Material Quality
There is no casting involved in the B8265. Accossato machines it from solid Ergal 7075, the high-strength aluminium alloy the company relies on for strength, lightness and reliability, and the work is done in Italy. What comes out of the machines is a lever in two parts: a dark-finished base that sits on the pivot of the front brake master cylinder and carries the joint, and a blade in black, blue or green that hinges from it. On the brake side, Accossato keeps the blade short, shaped for three fingers, which suits the firm but measured squeeze a big four-stroke needs going into a turn.
Back on a Bike After Years Away
Returning riders tend to make the same mistakes. Their eyes are calibrated to an older, slower bike, so they reach the first corners faster than they think, brake late and hard, and ask the front tyre for more than it can give. The cure is patience: a few sessions at a comfortable pace, braking a little earlier than feels necessary and building the squeeze gradually rather than snatching at the lever. Track layouts need relearning too, with bigger jumps and deeper ruts than many remember. A YZ450F rewards smoothness long before it rewards bravery.
Crashes during that period are rarely dramatic: a front end that tucks at the apex, a rut that catches the wheel, a slide at modest speed. They are, however, the kind of crashes that break levers, because the YZ450F slides on its side and the bar end drags the lever tip into the ground. The B8265's joint gives the blade a chance of swinging forward instead of snapping off, which can rescue the rest of a practice day. It will not survive everything, and it will not give back the missing seasons, but it takes one frustration out of the comeback.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato names the Yamaha YZ450F twice for the B8265, the 2008 model on its own and the bikes from 2009 to 2022 as a group; in both cases the lever takes the place of the original one on the factory front brake master cylinder. The C7266 folding clutch lever begins a year later, in 2009, so a 2008 YZ450F can be fitted on the brake side only. Green is exclusive to the brake lever; black and blue exist for both.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been documented for the B8265. It is intended for motocross and off-road competition on closed terrain.
Scope of Delivery
Delivery comprises the B8265 brake lever alone, blade in black, blue or green.
