DescriptionThe whole story▼
Tip-overs in a home garage rarely make good stories, but they are a common way for a sports bike to get damaged. You push the GSX-R1000 backwards past the car, standing on its left with one hand on the bar and one on the seat, and once it leans away from you there is very little you can do. Accossato's LV020 is a folding brake lever for the GSX-R1000 of 2005 to 2019, made for the original radial master cylinder. Its blade is hinged to a black base, and the reach to the grip is adjustable.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the Suzuki GSX-R1000, 2005 to 2019
- Fits the original radial brake master cylinder
- Blade can fold at the joint if the bike falls on its right side
- Adjustable reach, adjuster in the black base
- RST (with lightening cut-out) or NRST blade
- Black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver or titanium
- Standard length; a second version, the LV022, is listed too
Construction and Material Quality
The LV020 is built from two CNC-machined aluminium parts, each anodised. The black one is the base. It locates on the pivot of the radial master cylinder and carries the adjuster that sets the reach. The coloured one is the blade, available in black, blue, gold, green, orange, red, silver or titanium, the last being an anodised colour rather than a different metal. Between the two sits the joint that allows the blade to fold. You also decide between the RST blade, with its lightening opening, and the closed NRST blade.
Between the Car and the Wall
Garages are rarely built with a superbike in mind. The GSX-R1000 has to be wheeled in past a car, a workbench and the bicycles, usually backwards and often on a floor that is dusty or slightly sloped. Riders push from the left side. A bike leaning towards you can be held against your hip; one leaning away cannot, and it goes down on its right-hand side. The brake lever is frequently the first part to touch, sometimes after scraping along the car on the way down. A conventional lever can bend or break there. A folding blade has the chance to swing aside, which makes a broken lever on a Sunday morning, with the shops closed, less likely. Some owners lower the risk further by clearing a straight path before moving the bike and keeping it leaning slightly towards them while they push. However careful you are, one distracted moment is enough, and a lever that can fold is one less part to worry about on the GSX-R1000.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the LV020 for the GSX-R1000 from 2005 to 2019 and names the original radial master cylinder as its mount. For the same years, a second folding lever is listed, the LV022, which Accossato describes as a folding brake lever with integrated adjuster; compare the two before you decide. One listing covers that whole span; Accossato does not divide it by model year for this lever.
Road Approval
No German ABE can be shown for this lever; please treat it as a part for the racetrack.
