DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 1290 Super Adventure R takes KTM's biggest V-twin of the period into terrain where most riders would choose a lighter motorcycle. Riding it down a steep gravel track is where skill shows most clearly: the front brake has to be used, but only as much as the loose surface allows. The Accossato EDD001 is a CNC-machined aluminium front brake lever for the 1290 Super Adventure R, listed from 2017 to 2020, with an adjustable reach and blades in three lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, 2017 to 2020
- Mounts on the original master cylinder
- Reach adjustable for one-finger braking
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange or silver
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm in every colour; long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- CNC-machined, anodised aluminium; black hub
- One fixed piece, no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
The EDD001 is milled from aluminium rather than cast and anodised afterwards, so its colour is carried inside a hard oxide layer instead of sitting on top as paint. The hub, which holds the pivot and the reach adjuster, is black; the blade is finished in the colour you choose. Because the lever is rigid from hub to tip, with no folding joint, the finger on the blade feels what the front brake is doing without any movement in between, which matters when the surface underneath is loose.
Downhill on Loose Ground
On a loose descent, a big twin's engine braking does much of the work in a low gear. What the front brake adds must be fed in gently, because a front tyre that locks on gravel stops steering. The technique is to stand, keep the weight back, look far ahead and let a single finger rest on the lever, applying small, steady pressure and easing off the moment the front begins to push. That finger needs the lever right where it already is; searching for it halfway down takes attention away from the track. Adjusted closer to the grip, the EDD001 sits where one finger can work it while the other three hold the bar. The short blade is the usual choice for this kind of riding, while the standard blade is the better all-rounder if your 1290 Super Adventure R spends most of its time on tarmac. Practise on a gentle slope first; the feel for how much front brake the gravel will take comes with repetition, not with a single ride.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDD001 is listed here for the 1290 Super Adventure R from 2017 to 2020. Accossato's list starts earlier, but there was no R version before 2017, so this product begins with the R's first model year. The lever fits the original master cylinder, replacing the stock part. On the left side, the ESA090 is the matching Accossato clutch lever for those model years.
Road Approval
We sell the EDD001 for track use because no German ABE is documented for it.
