The SV 650 has one of the busiest aftermarkets of any middleweight, and nearly everything on that shelf is sold on a promise of more — more flow, more noise, more response. The Sprint Filter P14 PM117P14 openly goes the other way. It is a dry special non-woven rated at 14 microns where the standard P08 weave is rated at 80, and it passes 1,800 litres per square metre per second where the P08 passes 5,050. You fit it because you want less through the element and more of the dirt stopped,.

Key Features

Dry special non-woven medium, filtration rated at 14 microns

Rated flow of 1,800 litres per square metre per second, against 5,050 for the P08

No oil at any stage, so nothing can be drawn off it onto the intake sensors

Fits the series airbox in place of the original panel: nothing cut, no reflash

Cleaned with an air line and refitted, for as long as the motorcycle is kept

Two years of Sprint Filter cover from the date of purchase

The reason has to come from the road

Dust is a property of where you ride and when, not of the motorcycle. A twin used all year on unswept rural roads, past dry fields in late summer and along gravel lanes, meets a different atmosphere from one that sees only town and motorway. The SV 650 is very often the first sort: cheap enough to ride in weather that keeps other bikes in. If that describes yours, specify by the air rather than by the brochure. If it does not, the P08 is the better balanced element and there is no reason to pay flow for retention you will not use.

What you are handing over

The intake of a series machine is a chain of restrictions — ducting, airbox volume, throttle bodies, and a calibration signed off around them — and the element is one term in it, normally a modest one. That is why a fine medium can work in a standard housing at all and why the fuelling is left alone. It is also the only term that changes with time. What the P14 will not do is make a standard SV 650 noticeably stronger; it is not sold on that, and no drop-in filter delivers it. Sustained full throttle, circuit use or a freer exhaust with a matching map all argue for the P08 instead. One step finer again, the T12 filters to 7 microns and flows 560 — more held back, less passed. A trade, not a ranking.

Care and cleaning

The PM117P14 is serviced dry. Hold an air line to its clean side and work the dust outwards, the way it came in. Where air leaves something behind, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will lift it; rinse until the water runs clear. Let it dry right through in moving air, never with heat and never near a flame, and refit it dry. There is no oiling step at any point. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

For the Suzuki SV 650 of 2016 to 2026, seated where the series element sits. This medium is listed for that machine alone — the earlier SFV650 Gladius shares the standard element but not this one.
