The panel filter in most motorcycles is a part you are told about rather than one you look at: it appears on a service schedule, it gets exchanged by somebody else, and its condition between those dates is a matter of trust. The Monster V2 is the machine on this platform most likely to be somebody's only motorcycle, ridden through whole years rather than seasons, which makes the trust question a long one. A washable element answers it differently. Taking the PM279S out, inspecting it and putting it back consumes nothing at all, so there is no longer a reason to leave the airbox lid shut.
Key Features
- Single-layer woven polyester, dry throughout its life, with no oiling step at any point
- An aperture of 80 µm with 5,050 l/m²/sec of rated flow — Sprint Filter's road and track cloth
- Polyester threads from ø 22 microns; the number that filters is the mesh, not the thread
- Close to twice the filtering surface of other performance filters, held in the original frame
- Fits the standard airbox as the paper element did, with no modification and no remapping
- Cleaned and reused for the motorcycle's lifetime, covered by two years of warranty from purchase
A part with a reference condition
What makes inspection worth doing is that this element has a state to return to. Compressed air takes it back to the condition it was in when it was new, so what you see on the cloth is the loading since the last clean and nothing older than that. A paper panel offers no such baseline: it only ever moves in one direction, and its best day is its first. Across the years a Monster tends to be kept, that difference turns into a maintenance habit instead of a maintenance appointment.
Dry, and why that matters here
The medium arrives dry and is used dry, so nothing sits upstream of the throttle bodies that could migrate onto the sensors of a heavily instrumented modern twin, and nothing has to be re-applied correctly after a wash. It should be said plainly that none of this shows up as horsepower. An element in a standard housing does not make a standard Monster V2 noticeably stronger, because the whole intake path was signed off as one design. What it does is hold the resistance of the filter itself low, and put it back there whenever you choose.
Care and cleaning
Most services need an air line and two minutes: blow through the element from its clean face outwards, working across the whole surface rather than at one spot. Once a year, or after a winter of salt and damp, wash it in warm water with a mild detergent until the water coming off it is clear. Let it dry completely in still, open air — never over a heater, never with a flame — and fit it dry, with nothing sprayed on it. The maintenance instructions are in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Ducati Monster V2 of 2026 as a direct replacement in the series airbox. Six Ducatis built around the 890 V2 engine take this same part number; the model years for each are set out in the Fitment tab.
