Why the Rate Holds
Each spring is set before it is measured, so it will not settle and lose rate in service. The unit is rebuildable: seals, shims and oil are catalogue items, not a reason to buy a new one. Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units.
What Fitting Involves
Torque the fork caps to the manufacturer's figure; the springs change nothing about the assembly torque. Rate and preload are separate adjustments: get the rate right first, then set sag with preload. A spring that is the correct length still needs the preload spacer checked, since installed length is what sets sag.
Road Approval
Road approval: no separate certificate. The spring changes the rate, not the construction of the fork, and is treated as a service part.
