Semi-Active Öhlins
The S specification brings electronically managed suspension and forged aluminium wheels. On a 214 hp superbike the damping is being adjusted several times a second from the inertial platform.
Winglets From 2020
Ducati added aerodynamic appendages to the V4 after MotoGP made them standard equipment. They generate real downforce at the speeds this motorcycle reaches and they changed how the front end behaves.
Two Hundred and Fourteen Horsepower
From the 1103 cc Desmosedici Stradale, with desmodromic valve actuation carried over from the grand prix engine. Ducati is the only manufacturer still building this way and it is the reason for the rev ceiling.
Housing Only
The switch block is not part of this. It is the throttle assembly alone, which suits a bike whose electrics are sound and whose owner objects to injection-moulded plastic on a motorcycle costing this much.
Machined Bore
The throttle tube's rotation is read by a sensor rather than pulling a cable. A cut bore keeps that reading consistent where a moulded one gradually opens up and introduces play.
Black Anodising
Converted into the metal. Against forged wheels and gold suspension, it is the finish that does not attempt to join in.
Cut From Solid
Ergal 7075, a zinc-bearing aerospace alloy at roughly double the strength of ordinary machined aluminium. It costs more to cut and it does not deform when the bike goes over.
A Counter-Rotating Crank
The V4's crankshaft turns opposite to the wheels, which cancels part of their gyroscopic effect. It makes a 214 hp motorcycle turn in more willingly than the numbers suggest it should.
