A Hundred and Forty-Seven Horsepower
The 2017 revision brought the Panigale's 1198 cc Testastretta 11 degree engine up to 147 hp and a trellis frame that had been reworked around it. It was the fastest Monster Ducati had built at that point.
Still a Trellis
Where the superbikes had abandoned the steel frame, the Monster kept it, hung from the cylinder heads with the engine as a stressed member. It is the model's oldest and most durable idea.
Thirty Years of Monsters
Miguel Galluzzi's original 900 in 1993 was built almost entirely from parts Ducati already had. It saved the company and it created a category that everyone else eventually entered.
The Housing Alone
This replaces the throttle assembly and leaves the switch block in place. It is the cheaper route to a better cockpit when the switchgear is still doing its job properly.
A Machined Bore
The throttle tube turns inside this body and a sensor reads it. Cut rather than moulded, the bore stays round and the grip keeps its feel across years rather than seasons.
Black Anodised
Converted into the surface rather than laid over it. A naked bike's cockpit is exposed to view and to weather, and neither treats a coating kindly.
Cut From Solid
Ergal 7075 at roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined aluminium. It holds a clamping face on a handlebar indefinitely rather than gradually relaxing.
Weather Reaches It
With no fairing there is nothing between the throttle assembly and the road. The clipped seam on a moulded housing is where that eventually causes trouble.
