Where the Settings Live
Riding modes, ABS, traction and the display, all on the left. Over a long day those get reached considerably more often than anything on the right side of the handlebar.
No Markings to Lose
A machined body carries no printing, so ultraviolet has nothing to work on. On a moulded block the legends usually give up several years before the mechanism does.
Torque Into Aluminium
The fasteners run into cut threads rather than moulded plastic. They hold a proper figure and they survive repeated removal without the housing giving up first.
An Even Clamp
Machined to the bar's diameter rather than close to it, so the grip spreads across the tube. That is why a milled block does not creep round under a heavy hand.
The Damage Happens Parked
Water collecting in a joint overnight has hours to work inward. Rain at speed mostly blows past, which is why a body with no joint pulls ahead over years rather than weeks.
Two Fasteners and a Plug
The whole installation, with nothing spliced anywhere. The original block refits in the same twenty minutes whenever the bike is sold on.
A Fairing That Does Its Job
Enough bodywork to keep a motorway tolerable and not so much that the bike becomes a superbike to sit on. Ducati found that balance at the first attempt and has never needed to revisit it.

Arriving from below five thousand revs, which is where a rider on a mountain road actually operates. The middle of the range was always the priority here rather than the top of it.
